This winter I'm going be working at a ski resort, I will be filming the the skiers and be making them a dvd at the end of the day. My question is when I import into FCP 4 should I use the advanced pulldown, I will be filming in 24p most defneitly. I tryed the advanced pulldown before and the footage came out all choppy, when I put the 24p footage into a 29.97 seqeunce it looked fine. I'm exporting to a DVD so I think I will just film in 24p and drop it into a regular 29.97 timeline and export to DVD. What do you guys think? Also I might want to film in 30p becasue I will probably to need use slow motion on some of the clips, some of the skiers might be doing jumps and stuff. I know 60i is the best way to go for slow-mo, but I'd rather keep the 24p look. Do you think I can pull it off with 30p. Maybe this should go under the FCP 4 board, i didn't know.

Thanks

Re: Use advanced pulldown or not?

if the normal 24p mode looked different than the 24p advanced mode AFTER editing and burning to a dvd, then something must have went wrong in the editing process. the dvd player will insert standard 2:3 pulldown, essentially making it look identical to 24p normal. are you sure you removed the advanced pulldown, edited in a 23.976 fps timeline, and compressed to mpeg2 as a 24p file? i don't know why it would look choppy... as for the slow motion aspect, you could make a few of your scene files 30p or 60i, and then switch to them quickly if you know someone is going to be performing something you will want slowed down.
