USB vs FireWire ingest

When I ingest via USB2.0 on an FCP system, FCP freezes after getting a few clips. When I use FireWire to ingest, it works fine. Any ideas? I might need USB some day.

How old is your Mac... If it is an oldie goldie it will have USB1 and that is way slow..

Usb is PC friendly while Fire wire is Mac friendly...

But you have encouraged me to try the Usb on my MacBook Pro

Read the manual and you'll see that it says that USB is *not* guaranteed to work on MacOS. FireWire *is* guaranteed to work.

Sometimes USB will work, but it's not guaranteed.

On Windows, the reverse is true: USB is guaranteed to work, and firewire device mode is not.

Thanks Barry, I usually skip RTFM :D

Good to know it's documented. I'll stick to FireWire then for OSX and USB2.0 for Windows. I just have to go into the menu everytime and change from 1394 Device to USB Device and vice versa.

By the way under OSX, do you guys eject all the P2 cards before disconnecting the FW cable and turning off the camera (this part I read)?
