USB Jog Shuttle. More of Less Buttons?

So i'm looking at investing in a USB Jog shuttle.
One of the Contour shuttles.

I am an editor that presfers to hit buttons than use the mouse. I allready edit mostly by keyboard. I do a lot of long formart editing useing some commands a lot more than others (..preaty normal stuff)

I edit on a laptop, and am very mobile, so size is a major consideration for me.
But so is the need for enough buttons on the shuttle so i don't have to keep surfing my hand between it and the keyboard.

So, those of you who own them.. which do you prefer. The Shuttle-Pro 2 with it's large size and more buttons?
Or the Shuttle-Express with it's smaller size?

Of course there is also teh price issue here.

But my main question is that are there really enough bottons on the Exprees, or do you find yourself running out. Or do you have a Pro and only use just a few of the buttons?

Thanks!

Get the Pro Miko, the Express is an excellent add-on with the Pro, but the Express will just frustrate you too much.

On the other hand...

I like the Express because I got it primarily for the jog/shuttle functions and don't want a bunch of small buttons like on the Shuttle Pro. I also appreciate the smaller footprint of the Express. It all depends on how you plan to use it--you sound like you might be better off with the Pro since you want to stay away from the keyboard.

On the other hand...

Miko is back where he started....LOL

It's kind of a personal preference type of thing in the end.

Nice setup there Sirius.. But I doubt that'd go in a laptop bag ;-) (Though your Maxtor drive looks famillier :-)

Yeah I think I am going to go with the Pro.. I almost feel stupid asking (here's me, all "get the best you can afford" etc..) I guess the size of the Pro isn't too bad. (after all, I generally do need to carry my Maxtor(s) along for the ride anyway..

Thanks guys!

I went ahead and ordered the Pro2 ... It arrived today. (again, horay for nice fast service from B&H ..ordered Thursday, Shipped Friday, Arrived Tuesday (That's REALLY good for Alaska)

So I plugged it in, and I know i made the right choice. ...Now all i have to do is decide on what to assign where :-)

Thanks for the help guys!

Anyone have any comments as to how much quicker their editing is due to the external controls? I'm wondering if it's well worth the investment. Well worth the investment would mean it allows me to edit in less time then usual.

I learned to edit video on a linear system and jog/shuttle controls plus dedicated keys were the standard. So it felt very weird to edit with just a keyboard and mouse on an NLE. I guess it depends on your comfort level editing, but I've never heard about anyone regretting buying a controller.

Like Barry, I learned diting in the liner tape world, so for me i'v always felt somethign was missing with my computer.
..Now I fianally feel that (once i get the final descicion on config on this thing) that i'm back up to my maximum editing speed.

Yes i'd say it's worth while.

It's great for other stuff too (like web browsing, teleprompiting, etc..) Sheesh, i sound like a commercial don't I?
