USB connection for HVX

Hi to everyone! I have a question for you... My PC, when connected to camera (HVX200E) via USB, doesn't "see" it. I tried to switch USB DEVICE in PC MODE in OTHER FUNCTIONS menu and turned the camera on PC/DUB mode, but nothing happened. Is my USB cable not working? Are there multiple cable types?
Thank you in advice and sorry for my english...

After putting the camera in MCR mode, you need to press and hold the MODE button for another two seconds to initiate a connection.

Thank you very much! It was the first attempt to connect the camera, and I didn't know that I have to hold MCR button to initiate the USB connection (I haven't got the user's manual here with me now...).
Thank you again!

You'll have to do the same thing when you install the P2 drivers -- they will not install correctly unless you follow this procedure to initiate a connection when asked to do so.

OK, I finally got a P2 card after having my camera for months, Yahoo! Now I'm having trouble getting the computer to recognize the camera so I can upgrade the firmware.

I go to install the P2 software and I get to step 8 and choose the driver. I choose "AG-HVX200(P2 handheld) USB driver."
Am I supposed to choose another one?

I click OK and the window opens: This installer will install AG-HVX200(P2 handheld) USB driver.
Please connect AG-HVX200(P2 handheld) by USB2.0.

I click the "Install" button and I get a beep. It won't install. If I click cancel it says that the driver was installed.

At what point am I supposed to follow THoff's advise and "After putting the camera in MCR mode, you need to press and hold the MODE button for another two seconds to initiate a connection."

I've tried that as I was installing the software and I tried it after it said the driver is installed and restarted my computer. All I get when I hold down the button is a blue screen and "1394 DEVICE," it blinks for a few seconds and then says "1394 DEVICE DISCONNECT."

???????????????????????????????

Help! I haven't even started with the upgrade yet.

  1. Make sure the camera is set to USB DEVICE mode, not 1394 DEVICE or 1394 HOST. This setting is in the OTHER FUNCTION menu under PC MODE.
  2. During the driver installation when you are prompted to connect the camera, have the P2 card(s) in the camera, plug in the USB cable, put the camera in MCR mode, and then press and hold the MODE button. Once the connection has been established, the driver installation will continue automatically.

Sweet! Be right back!

On a different note, you don't need to connect the camera to your computer in order to update the camera firmware. In fact, there is no point in doing that, since the update must be done using a SD card.

Simply download the firmware and copy the firmware image onto the SD card in the location specified in the update instructions -- you'll need some type of multimedia card reader for this, or another device that lets you read and write SD cards (many printers, LCD displays, PDAs, or digital cameras can do this). Put the SD card in the camera, go into MCR mode, and you should see an UPDATE option.

Oh, now you tell me.

When I found out I needed to get the firmware update onto an SD card I just sat there befuddled... yes, befuddled. Then I though to use my digital camera and it worked.

I am so pleased to have HD after all these months. I got my new camera, rods, mattbox, 35mm adapter and lenses... but no P2 card to be found. Except for the fact that my absent minded parents sent the P2 card to me from the States to France WITH the invoice and I got taxed 200 euros, I'm very very pleased. I have a shoot on Sept 28th that I thought would have to be on SD. I got the P2 card AND the out door cafe confirmed today! It's been a good day (except for the TAX!)

Thanks for your help THoff, I would never have figured it out on my own since the INSTRUCTIONS didn't mention any of that.
