The technology, also developed by HP, Microsoft Corporation, NEC Corporation, NXP Semiconductors and Texas Instruments Incorporated, will target fast sync-and-go transfer applications in the PC, consumer and mobile segments that are necessary as digital media become ubiquitous and file sizes increase up to and beyond 25 Gigabytes.

bye bye firewire ?? Hello USB 3.0 in HVX200b ?? :cheesy:

USB 3.0 is probably at least two years away from appearing in any products, and by the type it does, we may well be relying on some type of wireless connection.

WiMax for instance can easily handle the DVCProHD bandwidth requirements, it has excellent range, and is much more tolerant of interference than 802.11a/b/g/n. Wireless USB which is already out could also handle DVCProHD, but is much more limited in range.

I for one would love to be able to get rid of cables.

While wireless is becoming far more useful (in terms of range, reliability etc) it can never truly replace wired. Anyone who's used wireless networking, bluetooth etc, will know about the problems with interference, reliability, and security. the problem is: these problems are pretty much inherent in wireless technology, and i can't see them going away.

USB 3.0 however, sounds awesome! no need to worry about fiber connections for our RAID's!

I'd think that some form of SATA connection, or similar will be on the horizon as well as Firewire 3200 or what have you.

eSata is already on the horizon. Western Digital is selling external hardrives with that loaded up to them. 3Gbps!
