i have a laptop with only one firewire port and 3 usb2 ports. i wanna plug my dvx into the firewire and capture directly to a usb2 drive. does usb2 have the throughput to capture realtime. thanks.
So what u r saying is that if you have a laptop with lots of space, a firewire/usb2 and a dvx, you can bypass the cassette and capture directly into a hard disk? I guess this is good if your shot lasts longer than one hour.
Is there any more info on this somewhere? Links?
Sure, if you really want to lug your laptop, HDs, a power source, etc. around with your camera, then you could totally capture directly to a HD. Just use your NLE's capture tool and capture away!
It's the same data rate whether your capturing off a tape or capturing what you're currently shooting. It makes no difference to the computer.
well the benifits would be avoiding the capture process, can save on tape cost (dont have to worry about evs shortage on mq), keeps camera at low hours (helps with resale value). on important jobs you throw the tape in for master backup.
