I've always measured and posted "absolute DR": if there's a signal, it counts. With that rule, I measured DR on my T2i to be nearly 10 stops using Neutral, and a bit over 11 with Flaat_12.
But some very knowledgeable people said those figures were crazy, there was no way the DR in these cameras was so high. They were talking about usable DR.
So, for my recent BMPCC evaluation, I decided to measure usable DR. And guess what: it's A LOT lower than my absolute DR figures.
These are my results:
The full explanation is here, and a visual test at ISO 200 that sows the difference between the cameras and also what I considered "usable" is here (that last bit is very important, because my trouble with the concept of usable DR is that it is subjective and not easy to compare between cameras).
