Firstly, this is my first message to dvxuser, so hello to everybody (:

I'm in a european country and we use PAL here. What i'm curious about is, the frame per sec of these two versions. If do not choose, i can not take 24P, it'll simply be 25P, and i won't be able to get 60 frames , only 50. Am i missing something, or this is a drawback?!

Hi Nightwalker and welcome to the Forum!

If you live in Ankara, that's Asia... why do you say Europe?

Hosgeldin! (eger türkce konusuyorsan)

It's about Hertz here, not about Frames per second.... Anyway it's NTSC vs. PAL and YES, you have to choose between PAL or NTSC means also, you have to choose between 50p max. or 60p max. Bad news, I know, but 50p is still good and in Europe ;) it is the new HD standard for broadcast. 50i is a joke for progressive HD-ready screens and 25p is flickering, so europe will use 50p (50 full-frame pictures per second) as HD standard and for this, you either need this option on your camera, as you will with a PAL HVX200 or you have to double 25p frames as some do to get virtually 50p.

Türkyie'de NTSC kullanildigini sanettim ... PAL kameramla sorun olmustuda bir kere...

Turkey is Europe or I'm losing something?...

Don't worry, I was joking... But Turkey will always be Europe, whether we(?) want or whether not...

I use 25 frames in 50hz environement, even with a film camera, when i have a television that plays in a sceen, when main lithning is fluorescent or hmi powered by 50hz. It helps a lot in post-production when you do not know where it will be done .. and in coproduction between different counties you very often do not know. And i know that a lot of theaters are 25 frames. 50hz/25f decision keep me free to concentrate on the shooting.
Happy New Year!

Hey everybody, first of all happy new year and merry christmas, i use the pal version of the hvx because i live in a pal country.. the only drawback i consider in relation with the ntsc version is the slower motion the ntsc model can achieve. It would ne nice to get 60fps on the pal model, as far as the frame rate.. 25fps looks great to me, it looks filmic enough. I would say the benefit of the pal version is in SD.. in other words the higher resolution 720x576.. thats if your working in SD though. Apart from that.. i dont think there is any disadvatage in between any of the 2 cameras..

I for one would have liked to have 60 for overcrank and a PAL/NTSC camera.

To get lower framerates, I guess one could use the hack.

Gunleik

I live in Curacao in the caribean. Funny, but I shoot 29.97 (NTSC) frames but we have 50 hz here. Curacao is a dutch colony, that's why. But Framerate is becoming less important in HD.
Next week I have a shoot in Holland and I will take my NTSC camera. I'm going to shoot 720 24p and will 'cinema tool' it to convert it to 25p. Since HD have same amount of lines all over the world that's not an issue anymore.

First of all thanks to everyone who replied.

If i buy the EU version ( default of my country ), i won't be able to get the smoothest slow motion that hvx200 allow ( 48fps, not 60.. ).

I am still unable to understand the logic of this. Ok, i understand that there have to be a NTSC/PAL thing for outputing analog signals. But why they can't digitally allow those hertz to be used? A marketing strategy? Or if this had happened, the price would have been gone too high?

you will be able to get smooth motion..50fps slomo is really smooth also.. it's slow motion.. and it looks like it.. however its just not as slow as the 60fps.. try looking in the "Screen Grabs / Clips of HVX footage" section. Check to see if there are any slow motion clips with the pal version.. and see how it looks to you.

Another advantage if the PAL version is that it has a higher DVCPROHD resolution of 1440x1080 compared to 1280x1080. Al the 1440 x 810 pixels produced by the CCD’s with pixel-shifting can thus be utilized.

Ankara is in Asia - geographically no discussion possible... and politically it might be in Europe earliest in 2025 if the E.U. makes it possible.......
