Us Hvx200 Package Available Now

"Also, to anticipate what we're sure will eventually be a question, we cannot put any footage up for viewing on the internet. Our contract with the network prohibits it. Suffice it to say it looks terrific, particularly in the hands of an experienced DP who thoroughly understands gamma, detail and color settings. Take care and good luck.[/QUOTE]"

Just curious which network is it for?

Well, lets see:

AVS: 5,600 with on 4 gig
add 1,800 for 3 more 4 gig cards
add 150 for extra battery
add 200 for pelican case

equals 7, 750 dollars
tax 600
total 8,350 dollars for brand new

sounds to me like 10,500 is quite a premium price paid by anyone who lacks the patience to wait an extra month.

to save over 2 grand I have no problem waiting!!

My thoughts exactly.

However, if it doesn't sell on eBay and I still don't have my HVX yet from my local dealer or EVS, I may be interested in this package. Not at the $10.5K though, that's nuts.

Do we know if Panasonic is doing a firmware updgrade? I'm sure this has already been discussed -- sorry for asking again -- but is this early model the same as the those in the forthcoming shipment?

You forgot to add the fast charger which is like 350, plus they probably paid for that P2 card (650). and the three cards would be 200 more than that. He also listed filters too. So it would be closer to the 10k.

Does seem though that this would only be a good deal for someone who needs the camera ASAP. I personally would want the joy of opening the box and taking it all out and all that glory...

I'll never forget the day I got home and a supposed friend of mine.. was let in the house by the wife and he had taken the liberty to open up my brand new powerbook, power it up and start messing around with it. I simply started counting outloud and by 10 he got the message and was out the house.

I want it to be Christmas when it arrives. I think it'll take me a day to open it.. I'll be so friggin cautious and excited.

Thank you Justyn for your accurate cost appraisal.

Did we pay premium? Yes.
Did we get the cameras in time for our critical need? Yes

Cost of each camera including all add-ons and tax: $10,450.
Cost of receiving them in the nick of time to avoid additional Varicam rentals: priceless.
(Not to mention the cost of DVCPRO HD tape - $26 per 30 minutes.)

We certainly understand the desire for the "kid at Christmas" box-opening ceremony. That's how it felt for us. Good luck, and may the Panasonic Santa arrive at your door soon.

FYI, although there are no bids yet on the camera, there are 15 "watchers".

I have no doubt that they paid the full $10.5K - actually $10,450 according to their next post. They paid a bit of a premium to get one of the first ones and it apparently worked out well for them. Good for them.

My point was that unless someone is super desperate to get the camera ASAP, it's not going to happen, and I think we agree about that. Especially with a sizeable order shipping to distributors from Panasonic QC within the next 24 hours (already confirmed by Jan). And like anything else, cars, cameras, etc.. As soon as you leave the store with it or drive off the lot, it depreciates. They're asking a buyer to reimburse them for their full ticket, plus $50, plus any shipping costs that may be necessary. Not that I really have a problem with that, that's what free commerce is all about. In fact, I'm a little surprised that some "gotta have it now" impulse buyer hasn't already snatched it up. I was just saying that I may be interested if their initial auction attempt at $10500 fails, I may be interested for an amount more comparable to what I'm going to be paying from EVS... That is if my number doesn't come up soon... Hopefully this week, but I may be in the following shipment, we don't know exact quantities yet.

$10,500 is absurd if you ask me, but you never know with eBay these days. Some people go to eBay thinking they're going to find a great deal, and they end up paying above retail. Long gone are the days where you can find a great deal on eBay.

Case in point, I witnessed a guy that paid $3100 with shipping for a used DVX100B yesterday! I messaged the guy to tell him he got ripped because he could've bought a brand new one for $2999 with free shipping at buydig.com, which sells the authorized version of the camera and is rated well by resellerratings.com. His response to me was "fu". Anger was obviously misdirected.

I dunno about that...

I just bought a whole new edit setup consisting of a G5 Quad, Xserve RAID, FC Studio and Shake 4 and all was purchased through sellers on eBay. I'll just say that after the dust settled and I now have it all up and running here, all of it cost me little more than if I were to buy a lesser config of G5 Quad direct from Apple. And all of this was brand new gear except the Xserve, which was only a 3 month old lease repo.

Don't blame the sellers, blame the bidders. I often see people bidding way too much for an item. A current example is an Arri 1000w Light. You can buy one new with barn doors, bulbs and accessories for about $600+. Depending where you are, no tax too. This one on ebay which was used with the same set of accessories and shipping around $500.00. I don't know about you, but I'd rather pay another 100 or so and get a brand new one.

To each their own, but ever since Ebay turned into "pricewatch" for retail stores it's just not as good.

Perhaps it was "misdirected anger," but it probably would've benefited him a heck of a lot more had you messaged him before the auction was over and not after he had already made a commitment to pay the full amount. Did he get a bad deal? Arguably. But I would probably say "f u" too if there was nothing that could be done about it. What does messaging him after the fact and telling him what a crappy deal he just got accomplish?

FWIW, I sold my year-old DVX100A on eBay in late November for $3,100 (and this was already after the "B" model had come out).

All the action was in the last few seconds of the auction. There was no way to warn anyone ahead of time. He was one of those sniper bidders. A stupid sniper bidder.

Yeah, I do blame the buyers for driving up eBay prices. It is like pricewatch for retailers. Couldn't agree more. I still remember the good ol' days of eBay, way back when...1999...those were the days.

I think eBay still works well for many of us, on both sides. But on eBay, or off eBay, noone likes being told they're a sucker. Further, in the cse you discuss, it may not be the absolute lowest proce, but is certainly competitive, and who knows what other factors were involved. Had you said he paid $5,000 maybe it would be shocking and outrageous; but really!

Anyway, how often do you write to people to tell them how stupid they are? I hope your home address is not easily available!

I was actually trying to do the guy a favor. I'm not worried about my address, you can't just get anyone's address on eBay unless you bought/sold from that person. Plus, I don't live in fear of the internet.

Were that we all had the time to point and nelson-laugh at every closed auction on ebay that we thought was unfair!

I think Andrew's on a one-man mission to drive down the resale price of DVX's. Take a look at all his posts. Lowballer! might be a nice custom nickname for him....mods? Maybe he works for Sony.
