I have to finish editing a wedding that I shot with a professional video camera, but I've encountered some trouble.

I captured it to my computer and there were some little white glitches showing up, so I figured it happened during shooting and that the heads must have been dirty or something, but I recaptured it and the glitches were on different parts of the footage instead this time.

So, I cleaned the heads and tried recapturing again, but they are still showing up. My question is, as a last resort, can I capture the footage onto my computer from a regular consumer video camera instead of my professional one, or will it affect the quality?

Thank you

C.J.

It won't affect the quality at all.

However...

What kind of computer are you using? What video card are you using? What kind of 'glitches' are you seeing?

Apple had some issues with video card burning up and creating flashes and blocks etc. Don't look like dirty heads, but are random.

I can't comment on the spec problem you're having. most users would suggest using an inexpensive camera for rewinding tapes and capturing anyway. A consumer camera doesn't read the tape any differently than the pro camera so loss of quality isn't an issue. I do hope you get your problem figured out though.

Awesome. Thanks guys.

To "Threeboys":

I'm using an HP laptop. Pretty good one, lots of space. I was pretty certain it was the heads being dirty, because this started happening after using a preused tape that wasn't blacked out, that my friend gave me to use. That tape was showing the prerecorded material through the newly recorded material, and since then, I started getting those glitches, which I figured was residue from that tape, which was not only preused, but a different brand than I normally use.
