urgent! tripod plate question

hi,
i start shooting tomorrow morning. i'm getting a Sachtler tripod to work with. this evening we had a little check with the equipment, (i didn't have the camera there with me) i was looking at the plate of the tripod, the one with the screw on. i wasn't sure if the screw is not too big for the DVX... i can't remember if there are at all different standards for these screws.. now, back at home, when i look at the bottom of the DVX it does look a bit smaller comparing to that screw.
am i crazy? is it possible that the screw on the tripod will not fit?
i feel a bit stupid.. it's kind of basic to have the camera there and check everything to the last detail... please help!
thanks!!!!!!!

Re: urgent! tripod plate question

there are two standards, one big one and one small one the small is 1/4" and the big is 3/8" threads if I remember. You should be able to pick the bolts up at home depot if you need be.

Re: urgent! tripod plate question

sure.. sure there are different standards. the one that fits our camera is the one that fits stills cameras. the wider one fits those big quick-set plates for the bigger cameras (i.e. beta)
it came to my brain only after arriving on set. of course i had one back at my flat :-[

Re: urgent! tripod plate question

Your DVX is 1/4-20
That is 20 threads per inch and a diameter of 1/4 inch
Likely what is on the Sachtler is 3/8-16
That is of course, 16 threads per inch and a diameter of 3/8ths of an inch
You may find that you have the required screw hanging around
it is very shallow so be prepared for that. Washers or such will be an important element for your success
Check your other tripods!
Good Luck!

Re: urgent! tripod plate question

yes, if you actually have a bogen tripod, even the cheaper ones, they usually come with both screws you can "borrow" one from.

When we use the sachtler head, we usually use a truck plate or cheese plate in there to make everything work

Re: urgent! tripod plate question

Jarred, what are truck plates and chees plates?
Thanks
