URGENT: Technical Problem in Uganda with DVX

Students of mine are shooting a documentary in Uganda. They've contacted me to say that their DVX 100a (NTSC) is apparently not recording properly (no picture during playback). The other two cameras are PAL so they can't test if the footage is being recorded, ruling out simply a problem with the playback head. They have tried cleaning the heads... No luck.

The camera is still under warranty. Panasonic Canada kindly provided us B-stock last summer for this and other documentaries that students are shooting in South America and Africa. The dealer and Panasonic rep have not gotten back to me after three phone calls and two days (I won't release names, hoping that they might come through tomorrow).

Does anyone know the nearest service center in Africa or the Middle East? Does the camera need to come back to North America?

Any ideas?
 
When I was in Tanzania I was able to get some repairs done in Dar Es Salaam. It's not Uganda but it's closer than North America.
