Hello.
I have encountered a strange probem with my DVX-100A while shooting a documentary in uruguay, and I think it is some kind of interference due to proximity to radio transmitters and/or electrical or magnetic phenomena. I need to know what it is, if there's a way to avoid it, and if it is damaging my camera or if its ok to keep shooting.
The problem: The image shakes abnormally (usually up and down, fast, and erratically though once it simply reframed abruptly as if I had tilted the camera up about 15 degrees) despite being on a tripod and having OIS enabled. ALSO something inside the camera makes intermittent whirring and clicking sounds, as if whatever was causing the shake were clearing causing something to jiggle around inside the mechanism.
The circumstances: The first time this happened I was shooting near an old abandoned factory, but there were probably some working factories nearby. When I moved farther away from that place the problem stopped. The second time this happened I was shooting at a community radio station, a real hole-in-the-wall homemade setup, while they were broadcasting. I kept shooting because I figured the shake could be explained within the story of the documentary, until the camera gave me a "WARNING PSD NG" message, which i see on the forums has to do with detecting an abnormal shake. (No kidding, camera!) Again, when I left the area the problem stopped. Later that same day (today) the PSD NG message came back in a different place, the bus station of a small town, but again when I went elsewhere all seemed to function normally.
Is it ok to keep shooting when this happens? Is this going to do permanent damage to my camera? Is there a way to avoid this and still shoot in these conditions? Do all cameras do this? I need to shoot at this community radio station! Thanks for any input.
