Urgent: How to mount V-mount plate to 15mm rods? Would this work for FS700 and 7q?

i have that same model but for AB mount. You can also charge your battery from the mount (save money from buying the charger itself)

Like this one?

With this plate ^ (AB mount) I should be good to go with the following, correct?

I just bought:

- Anton Bauer Dionic-HC Lithium-Ion battery (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ..._DIONIC_HC_DIONIC_HC_Lithium_Ion_Battery.html)
- CD's D-Tap cable (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...design_cd_od_dtap_d_tap_to_neutrik_power.html)

I'm needing to order some things from B&H before shopping cart closes in 30 mins.

Edit:

I think I may go with this Lanparte plate.. This one can mount easily.

Thanks.

That is a very cool piece of hardware!

At work, we'll be getting a FS7QQ combo soon, and now I'm really going to consider this option instead of buying a buttload of Sony L series batteries to power the camera and recorder. Since the rig will be shoulder-mounted from time to time, I like the idea of shifting weight from the front of the rig to the back, and relieving some of the strain that a couple of batteries would likely place on the magic arm holding the 7Q in place. The fact that we could also use the V mount batteries to power our LED lite panels from time to time is just gravy!

Anyway, my one (newb-ish) question is: what else is needed, besides pinch plate and battery, to power the FS700 + 7Q?

I've read that the cables included with the plate are not compatible with the 700 (discussed here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...a-review-of-Lanparte-s-Pro-rig-V2-many-photos!). ITT, Drazen talks about buying a charger off ebay and making his own cable from that, but that's really not an option for me. Does anyone know if an appropriate cable is available commercially, without going to Ebay?

I also assume the included cables aren't compatible with the 7Q either, since austinmartifilms mentions buying a CD D-tap->Neutrik cable... I'll add one of those to the list.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help a newb out.

A big reason to go with a power option like this over using just the Sony batteries is that for the 7q, they drop in voltage pretty quick when shooting 240fps, keeping me from shooting very long (like more than 15 seconds).

Oh, I didn't even think about that. I may look into cutting and splicing the power cable that came with the FS700, but not before I research cable options that are out there to see if there are any decently cheap ones.

But this should be all you need. The plate, cable for each camera, and battery. Voila!

Cool, thanks! I will keep looking as well. If I find anything, I will post back here. If you could do the same, that would be swell!

The issue is the special power connector that the FS700 takes (look at your AC adaptor to see what I mean). Yes, I too ordered an AC adaptor from ebay (from the US), a little over $20. I'm just going to canabalize the connector (and its cord). Then I will soldier a barrel power connector to the other end. I may throw the rest out (or save for spare parts).

Thanks for confirming the incompatibility, Jim. I'm still hoping there is an option out there that doesn't involve Ebay and/or solder. I don't have access to either the camera or battery plate to examine the connectors (nor do I know how to refer to them), so my GoogleFu isn't yielding any worthwhile results :/

For rail mounted battery plates, you could also consider the Movcam and Tilta plates. They both look good. Similar arrangement to the Lanparte plate.

I looked into Tilta, but couldn't find one that would get here by early next week.

Also looked into Movcam, but was quite a bit more expensive.

Yeah tilta stuff can be difficult to source (in the UK particularly). I had one of their FS700 rigs on order through a dealer for about 4 months and it never turned up. Dealer said it was tilta not shipping. I gave up in the end and cancelled!

The movcam looks nice as it has two battery mounts, one on each side so you can run two and swap over without powering down. I've not bought one yet but will do eventually I think. The only problem is that the cables seem to be very expensive indeed.

I'm planning to get the Camtree rig before too long, which includes a battery plate with two mounts also.

Thoughts on this rig? May not be supreme quality, but sure does seem like a lot of bang for the buck.

Yes I bought the Movcam knockoff camtree rig - not the full set you linked to but just the mount, rail and top handle rig. I posted my thoughts in this thread:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...ig-Cage-the-indian-knockoff-of-the-Movcam-Rig

Basically it was pretty good for the price but you do get what you pay for. There were a couple of issues with it that I had to solve myself. One by drilling out the top handle mounting holes. These were threaded rather than being plain holes as they should have been. Attention to detail just wasn't there and was a really obvious problem.

I did see their battery plate but after seeing closeup pics, immediately discounted it as it looked very poorly made. Not sure I'd trust anything electrical from them.

Oh, forgot to mention, I bought the camtree rig direct from camtree on ebay. Shipping was free and was by 2 day FedEx delivery from India. Pretty good!!! It did take them a couple of days to ship though.

Thanks Paul. Getting the Tilta battery plate would certainly be easier for me, since I'll be getting the FS700 rig and other accessories from Tilta (Ikan) already. However, what I really liked about the Lanparte was the extra output options and the ability to charge the batteries without having to buy a dedicated charger. Also, this pretty recent thread (http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23348) talking about voltage leaks & spikes with the Tilta plate is a bit alarming as well.

As for the Movcam, it's nice that they have the proper cable available for their battery plate unit (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/981839-REG/movcam_mov_101_1712_4_pin_lemo_for_sony.html), but $200 is a little bit ridiculous for just the cable. For a little more money, Olof's solution (http://www.westsideavstore.com/index.php?p=product&id=63) includes the battery plate as well! The only downside to the WestsideAV unit appears to be the lack of outputs; with only a single D-tap (and one on the IDX battery itself to power the O7Q), there's no option to power a recorder, mix-pre, light, etc. Also, there's no charging feature like on the Lanparte. Ahhh! My head is spinning lol

And so we meet again, square one...

If you go with my setup, you can use the one D-tap that has 14.8v (standard brick voltage) to power a number of items. I make cables with multiple ends if you like, or I can just make a Dtap splitter so you can use a number of Dtap plugs.

Just bear in mind that you can only pull 55w from a AB or IDX plate. The FS700 uses 12w most of the time but if doing 4K or HFR it may use as much as 20w peak, the same is true of the O7Q, so a wireless receiver or 2 are OK to add to the power draw, but you want to be careful with lights. If you overload there is a fuse inside the IDX and AB plates that blow and have to be replaced.

My IDX and AB solutions power the FS700 and have 1 open D-tap. If you buy Swit bricks then they have an additional D-tap on the battery itself. So you have 2 open 14.8v Dtaps w/o splitter or special multi end cables.

Always figure your watts budget, or you can be stuck with a fuse replacement in the middle of a shoot.
