FS5: Urgent! Fs5 custom white balance??

Hi.
I'm on set. Rented the fs5. Shooting in slog3. Can't figure out how to set a custom white balance. Can't find anything on the internet.

With my fs700 I would just point the camera at a light source or a card and hit the custom WB button. Everything seems the same on this camera except that.
Please help! I have 30mins before we're supposed to start shooting.

I believe WB in SLog is set by choosing the appropriate gamma in the Picture Profile setting. In SLog you cannot select a custom white balance via the normal tools. There are settings for 3200, 4400, and 5600, I think. Choose the one that best fits your shooting situation.

Thanks for the reply guys. I can't use slog2 because the first part of this project was shot on the fs7 in slog3. I need the footage to match up and I need 10bit color. This seems pretty crazy for an expensive camera like this. How would you dial in WB on a professional shoot with slog3?

I understand your frustration at not having taken the time to get familiar with the camera before your important shoot, but don't blame the camera just because you don't understand how to use it. When shooting S-LOG, the camera is designed to work just like the FS7, F55, and F5 and makes perfect sense to those of us who actually made the effort to learn the camera and workflow. When you start pissing on the camera you harm everyone who has invested their money in one.

Like I said above… You choose your WB in ANY of the SLog modes by choosing the gamma that matches closest to your shooting situation.

Well if you're recording internal it's 8bit color.

Sorry to hear about your panic with the FS5. Sony camera's as of late have a lot of "gotcha's" built into them. I know it's too late now but this is a pretty good "quick setup guide" by Dan McComb incase it helps you in the future, or of course anyone else reading this. I know life isn't always perfect and many things in the business of video production can be less than idea.

In his guide he's written about the whopping THREE colour temperature presets that Sony has locked you into using when choosing one of the S-Log gamma curves (slog2 or slog3).

I know a lot of people want to know why Sony has locked some modes into three white balance presets. One argument made by a few internet experts is that it's because there would need to be a separate 3D LUT for each possible temperature setting throughout the entire colour temperature range. Well I don't really understand that because right now in post when did we ever have 4,300 versions of the same 3D LUT depending on which colour temperature we happened to shoot with?

Anyway hope you haven't been tainted by your experience but at least now you know for next time.

For this very reason I shoot Slog2 with Pro Matrix (or Cinema), I can custom white balance and post production is smooth as ive already shot in a easy colour space with less colour fiddling involved and only need to add contrast etc.
