Chris had excellent comments to my original question, but tonight at wedding rehearsal church audio man arranged for direct feeds via his audio mixer to my HMC40. The feed basically gets input from wireless mics that pastor has, groom and bride will have, music feed and all. I plug into HMC40 mic 3.5mm stereo jack and get sound without background noise I pickup using HMC40 mic. In fact due to sound system at church I get echo from speakers if I just use HMC40 mic. So, I would like to use audio feed from church mixer, except I had problems figuring out good sound level using church feed.
Actually, if I left mic setting on HMC40 at FIX I seem to get good results so again I wonder if HMC40 treats audio feed like it does its own mic--i.e. in FIX it tries to avoid clipping??? Next, I set mic setting to MANUAL and tried manual adjustment. Feed from church was quite loud so I tried -18 dB setting on HMC40 but frankly did not seem to make much difference in sound level vs -6 dB. So I wonder if HMC40 manual audio adjustment will reduce sound level from church feed like it does feed from an external mic plugged into the 3.5 mm jack on camera??
Would really appreciate feedback for wedding tomorrow. Thank you, Dennis
