hey guys! the worst has happened and my external hard drive failed and is unrecoverable.....
I set my scratch disks on the external hard drive, but the project file, all the raw video clips and premiere pro cs5 is still installed/on my computers internal hard drive. is there a way to open the project and individually replace all the video files with the raw files I saved on the internal drive?

basically i lost the scratch disk but still have all the raw video files on my internal drive. Can i reconnect all the raw files again? and hope that premiere will still have the project in order?
I finished the edit of a music video, which took forever, and its for a client sooo.....this is important!

thanks guys!

If the raw file names match the ones on the external and all the effects have been done on premiere then it should be as simple as redirecting the media. But if you moved the raw files to the external and renamed them then you will have to manually reconnect the files. If you exported any files from say after effects saved them to your external and then brought them into premier with out a back up then those are gone.

The question is do the names of the raw files match the names as they were on the external?

well i renamed most of the clips in premiere pro's media bin to organize the media...but i didn't go into the scratch folder or the raw files and individually rename them...
ill try and reconnect the media tomorrow after i do some more research haha

thanks guys!

Put the harddrive in a plastic bag and freeze it overnight, you might revive it long enough to dump the data.

If I'm not mistaken, where the files are placed [render/source] is not the same as the scratch disc.
Look under the Documents folder and you should see an Adobe folder with Premiere inside. That is where all of your "edits" should be.
Unless you saved your source files and rendered file to the external drive you should be okay.

ill check that out!
its always nice posting on this forum because i know i will get great feedback quickly

thanks everyone

Yeah, scratch has nothing to do with where your source media files are. Scratch mainly contains pre-rendered snippets and should not affect your project if it is lost (you'll just have to re-render the parts that are missing). If your SOURCE files are missing, you can just restore from backup and point PP to the new directory when it asks you. As long as the file names are the same, you just need to point it to one file and it should find them all.

You can try the old school hard drive in a bag/freezer trick too. Might work.
