UPSIDE DOWN PACO - by Hoz

Didn't quite get this. Why'd he wear a mask? Who was that on the forum?

Robbie

didn't want to represent anyone on the forum.

why the mask--- many possible answers but mainly i used a mask for Dick to make it funny and to better represent the fact that we all wear masks, especially when communicating within this sort of forum, i.e - most of us use pictures to denote an idea of who we are. i understand many of us might have the guts to fully opine at will while right in front of another but.... not all of us, and certainly not all of the time. i also included the little story about dick for that sort of reason, that he says one thing and one thing only, and from that his audience, the woman, was supposed to read his mind and heart. he was to be the exaggeration of Paco, nothing more.

of course i failed with vigor in depicting this since i am now explaining my little lost film with words.

( maybe i nailed the theme better than most! i pretty much lost all of you! )

Hoz, I found this concept interesting but it didn't quites lick for me at first. Once I checked out you thread, it dawned on me and it's actually very clever. I really like the concept.

The acting was pretty good and there were some good lines in there. The shots were well done. I noticed in the first room sequence before Dick's flashback, the color grading seemed to be changing between shots. The romantic flashback was actually very well done because you showed a couple of things that you don't usually see in the romance flashback montage, i.e. the getting ready in the mirror at the same time or the doodling on the paper together.

I enjoyed the film and I enjoy it more now that I understand it. Good job!

Hate's such a strong word. The story just didn't make me care enough about him. I actually felt I understood why she dumped him and thought she'd be better off without him. Sorry.

thank you for your review! color grading! that's because i poorly lit the room. AND because i didn't properly white balance each shot. basic no no's. i tried my best to color match the scenes, those darn bricks never wanted to match! and if i got them to match then my actors' faces looked off. ugh.

i tried to make it a different sort of montage, originally i had a v.o. of paco over the memories but i don't like v.o. much so i decided to only show it and not say anything. i liked the advice from ALex Whitmer on varying the pace of them and to repeat a favorite one.

thanks for your words, and as i stated in your thread, i really liked your film.

Blaine!
no need to be sorry! just having some silly fun. if anything i really respect your opinions from past readings of your thoughts in other threads. i'd take any thoughts from you if you had any different ideas as to how to improve his lot here? if he is a lost cause, no worries, he'll get over it!

I think this was the most original idea of any film I saw in the fest. The execution left a little to be desired, especially in terms of photography and editing, but it was still fun, and the ending was really satisfying. I dug it.

Ha ha. You got me.

An improvement over your last film.

I think a story like this is hard to pull off so low-budget, and therefore the payoff isn't quite as big as it could be.

It was pretty slapsticky and crazy, which kept my attention because I'm going WTF....

I wanted to see Cheney get whacked. Nice portrayal of him, but I think in real life he's much more of a D!CK. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

Keep it up.
