Uploaded 1080p video to Youtube - but why are there black bars?

From FCP, I exported 1920 x 1080p video using h.264 codec (pixel aspect ratio: square pixels) and then uploaded it to Youtube. However the video now has horizontal black bars and the image appears slightly squished.

What changes do I need to make to my exported video to ensure there are no black bars when the video is loaded to Youtube?

1920 X 1080 with a 1 pixel aspect ratio is correct. So it must be some other settings, but I don't know what (I don't use FCP).

The best output I've been able to get onto Youtube so far is 1920x1080 where from FCP I checked 'Preserve Aspect Ratio' and selected 'Crop' This narrows the horizontal bars somewhat but they are still there.

The exact work flow I used for this project was: edit in Premiere Pro, import project into After Effects, export from After Effects, import to FCP, export from FCP. I used 1920x1080 settings throughout. The reason I'm using FCP for the final export is that it has many more options for exporting files to various resolutions.

This is the first project where I've used Premiere Pro for editing, so I suspect there is something in the settings I used that is causing this issue. But like I said, I used 1920x1080 for the edit sequence so I'm not sure what else I could have done.

IIRC there are two subtly different 1080 exports from FCP. One is called 1920x1080 HD, and it is in fact 1920x1080 as you'd expect, the other is called 'HD 1920x1080 16:9' and it isn't ... Why the latter isn't what it purports to be is a mystery to me, but if you use the former as you 'size' selection all should be good.

Compressor has a YT encode preset.

Have you used that or modified it for 1920x1980 and use a current setting export from FCP as a master?
