Well I had a rocky experience upgrading to Leopard and sometimes I wish I stayed with Tiger! I only upgraded because I wanted to keep my computer current with all the other apple stuff I have.

When I was in the Apple Store the so-called Genius told me that I just needed to do an Archive and Install to put Leopard on my machine. He said nothing about selecting Preserve User Settings!!!!! So after the upgrade I had to basically create new accounts and basically start over as if my computer was new. I then had to search and find everything that was in my previous system and drag it over to the new system.

I did this back in early August and as of last week was still dragging stuff over!

My FCP studio apps were all over the place and I had to hunt and search for certain files to get it back running again. I guess I could have just used the install discs and then upgraded through software update to save time.

The only issue I still have is that my TITLE 3D fonts in FCP are missing since the upgrade. They are probably in a wrong folder or something.

I really wished I checked the box for PRESERVE USER SETTINGS!!!!!

Now I was also told by someone that is an expert with apple products not to put Leopard on my system which is a Powermac G5 1.8ghz (1st generation). I was told this after the fact...so go figure!

I also have a Macbook Pro laptop still running Tiger and don't know if I want to upgrade that to Leopard just yet.

I'm a big fan of upgrading once a new OS is released but I'm still actually running Tiger. I also have a Intel Duo Core 2.66 so my cpu can handle it but I'm not ready for the horror ride. I've decided to wait before jumping in and getting f•••••d!

Not to get too far off the subject but after updating my iphone I've had nothing but problems!! I wish I would of just kept my old one.

Well I can tell it to you straight- if you want to use the current version of FCP with the current version of QuickTime and all that in its best possible form- you need to be on Leopard. That's what it's designed for.

Matt's suggestion is good.

Or you can merely install Leopard cleanly on a separate drive and then FCS2 all with updates.

Then use that as a boot drive as you transfer other files to it from the original boot drive.

hm...
so if i don't wipe the drive-
will leopard want to do so?

speaking of Time Machine, any fans?

I basically back-up the old fashion way copying projects to other drives.
Wondering if i'm ready for a new archive system!

I upgraded my non-work machine Leopard a month or so ago w/o much of a headache. The only snag was the MIgration assistant app was a little wonky, but it all ended up good in the end. I haven't upgraded my work machine because I'm in the middle of a project.

Yup that's a great option as well.

Yes, major problems with Leopard here. I chose to upgrade a few really, really solid Tiger machines. And now the horror show starts:

1. Quicktime movies play at half the frames-per-second they should (DV, h.264, DV50, DVCPRO-100). So Final Cut Pro 6 is pushing up the daisies at the moment.

2. All files on the desktop rearrange themselves every 10 minutes or so, and grow into icons that are 2 inches across.

3. iTunes now takes 20 seconds to open.

***Heading over to call Apple now***

bikefilms,

That sounds REALLY odd! I have not experienced anything of that nature with my machine. I am actually a little reluctant to upgrade to the new iTunes 8 after hearing issues with that. I'll let Apple workout the bugs and check back with them later! LOL!
