Upgrading P2

I heard from someone that sells Panasonic equipment that the older P2 cards just contain 4x SD memorycards, and that the newer p2 cards, that come out now, are really p2 (whatever that may be!)
Does anyone have an idea if you can just replace the 4 SD cards with larger ones, like 4x 32GB. Or is impossible to open the cards and replace anything.

I use the firestore 250gb that I upgraded myself from 100gb to 250gb and I am interested if the P2 is also upgradeble because p2 cards will make the camera mutch lighter in weigt.

Not going to happen, people have tried, it doesn't work. There are more than just some SD cards in there and a RAID controller.

all kidding aside sebastian, NO.

there currently are no hacks, upgrades, work arounds, or any other tomfoolery to get around the P2 thing. many have tried and many have failed. not just users but engineers and developers as well.

But you are still stuck with that fragile, loose and unreliable four pin FW connection on the HVX200. I know lots of people successfully use the FS100 but for me, I tried it and did not like the vulnerability of that connection and my entire reputation and sometimes career depending on it.

I do see a decent amount of posts also with file naming errors, formatting errors, HD failures, etc. No thanks. You are riding a high wave and sooner later you will wipe out when shooting with the Firestore. You rarely see posts with problems with P2 cards.

I would like it better if they made it take SD (or any other smaller form factor inexpensive card). Better yet, why hasn't the firestore been made in a smaller form factor device to take sd cards instead of hard drives. That would certainly make it easier to card, or mount. if it were smaller, it could mount to the cold shoe. The whole outfit could be sold less than an new 32 gig P2 card, and include two 16 gig sd cards to start (based on the price of the fs-100).
