Upgrading Camera, Canon XL2 or DVX100B?

::sigh::

I had to do it.

Anyways, to throw my hat into the ring I have to say that you should seriously squeeze 110% of that DVX's potential. Upgrading to the 100b would be silly. I have used the 100, 100a, and 100b extensively and I can honestly say that you can get an extremely similar and fantastic image from every version.

As far as the Canon XL series goes... I can't stand using them. I have seen some great work done on them, but I personally can't stand using them. The stock lens is just garbage and throws itself out of focus all the time. I have had nothing but terrible experience with the XL series.

How do you do that? what software did you use? (can you do the same with video?)

yes irs very simple. If youre a student you can get "Sony VEGAS 6.0 + DVD" from JourneyED.com for like 250$. Thats an increadible price. And yo ucan do all the Color corrction you like with it.

Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. Approx. time = 1 1/2 min.

I hear good things about Sony's Vegas, but I will go to the grave with Apple.

FCP's Color corrector is better. but vegas' 24p support is unmatched.

Out of curiosity, what advantages does it have over FCP?

I only ask this because I have never run into a problem shooting in 24p or 24pa. Even if you screw it up, Final Cut fixes it for you (after rendering, of course).

it doesn need any specail cature properties. it just recognises it and removes pull down automatically. 23 or 2332 nad it works from any source. You can record a film off TV for example, which is 23 pullodown, but wihtout any markers. just standard 60i. Drp it in vegas, hit 24p in options, and boom its progressive footage again.

there basically is no difference between a 100b and an A. the image is practically the same. its just a Tiny tiny bit cleaner.

Honestly i thin kthe DVX100, has the nicest picture.

You mean, the original DVX-100, right?

I'm just peeping in here... But I agree whit most and say between dvx A or B you wont see much difference. Now maybe if you want HD then go HVX if possible. Not to drag the topic back to source, but that's my thoughts. And as far as Vegas vs. Final Cut, the simplicity of use is within them both, But I think I agree with TimurCivan on Vegas.

Why would the 100 look better than the 100A or 100B?

you know, i cant quite explain it. it was noisier. but it looked good somehow.

My friend has a 100 and i tried my best ot match the footage based on scene file settings. but in the end , on a 2 camera shoot, the 100 footage just looked nicer to me somehow.

Personally now that i think about it. I think i want to buy an XL2 because it simply looks cooler and bigger. I think people will accept me more because i can carry it on my shoulder. Plus I heard a psychologist say that the CANON's RED/GREY/BLACK color scheme is more appealing to the eye, therefore more clientele...eyyyy? hahah LOL JK!

Must have been the same psychologist who found out about that Panasonic "mojo" the panaddicts are raving about...

As hilarious as I found that statement... it is true.

My dad just got back from a documentary shoot about a group of monks in the US and this producer lady with no experience wanted him to use his OLD backup shouldermount DVC-PRO Panasonic because it "looked better" to her. Obviously he told her where to shove it and used the DVX.

This is especially true when doing weddings. The bride and groom always look nervous when you don't bust out a huge 6 o'clock news camera. Idiots.

yea except with the Panasonic, the appealing colors are in the footage.... not on the camcorder body.......
