Upgrade to CS4 or Pro 9 for the 150?

I have both Premiere Pro CS3 and Vegas 8.0c but I'm using Vegas Pro only.

I'm moving over to a 64 bit Windows 7 Pro machine in about 2 weeks and I'm wondering which editor should I upgrade to. CS4 or Vegas Pro 9?

Nearly everything that I do is either burned on standard DVD's, played back via computer to HD TV's or converted to Flash video for web display.
Simple fade or jump cuts with Flash based animated graphic opening sequences.

Which one would you guys upgrade to?
Or.
Is Premiere Pro CS4 better than Vegas Pro 9 for AVCHD files from the 150?

I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and on a clean system i have no compatibility problems with 64 bit.

I don't use vegas so i can't comment

I too use CS4 and really like it. The only thing is thought is that it does not actually support 64 bit OS. It does not take advantage of what 64 bit has to offer. "Supposedly" CS5 will. I have never used Vegas so I cannot comment on it.

I used vegas 9 up untill the switch to mac. I always had premier installed, know how to use it but never did.

8.0x to 9.0 is not much difference. So if your use to the way things work and time is important, I would stay with Vegas. If you have time to learn other programs it would be FCP suite - its more powerful then the aforementioned IMO. But that requires a different computer :P

CS4 is "64bit Optimized", and although it is not a native 64bit application, it has access to more than 4GB of ram, I will not go into details on how it does this as it is well documented on the forum.

Optomized just means that it will run on a 64 bit OS and can take advantage of a small part of what 64bit offers. CS5 will be (supposed to be) NATIVE 64Bit, so we should see a huge performance gain.

Edit - Forgot to mention that I do not think that PPro can access more than 4GB of memory. As a Production package each app can access up to 4GB since they are only 32bit apps (except for PS, because it is the only 64bit app). Since you are using a 64Bit OS and probably have more than 4GB of ram it does increase speed across the board.

Have a look on the internet for a Hackintosh and try that out if you have time but i hear that some people have problems

good choice on vegas pro 9, the best part is you can download and try both of these programs for yourself for a whole month to see what you like.

I've tried playing with hackintosh on my hp dv9500t laptop just to mess with final cut. While it may have worked, before i could make it work the way I wanted it to (i.e. gotten my distro to 10.5.6 or snow) I had to nix my 50gb mac partition after transcoding my short film.

I'm liking Edius on an i7. I have CS4 but find it confusing. I come from Avid land. Though my first taste of NLE's was FCP back in 02.
