Upconverting SD to HD

I found this on dvinfo.net:

"Dont believe all the crap you read about future-proofing. The ONLY way it will have any lifespan is if it is compelling and well-produced. In the future there will be many more upconvert tools and currently there are GREAT hardware solutions. I recently saw an HVX side by side with SD to DV run thru a Teranex Mini and 720P to P2 native.... shocking to report that there was virtually no discernable difference! Get a DVX100b and a water housing."

I have doubts that uprezzing can be that good. And what is a Teranex Mini?

Uprezzing at BEST can stretch it up and smooth aliased edges, but there won't be real detail in there. But yeah, content is king.

Tests done by Adamwilt.com and BBC Alan Roberts prove that HVX200 resolution is limted to it's CCD's 540x960 pixels. Used here quincunx pixel shift will not help on moving images. So DV50 is as good as HD.

I'm glad Adam is still testing the HVX. Actually I wish I had read the test so I would know if this is his conclusion of yours . . .

Either way a "DV50 is as good as HD" quote is just plain silly.

There has been far and away enough eye popping footage to contradict this notion for months and months. No doubt we can photshop something up to 800x it's normal resolution and find something to moan about (remember when people where playing the Beatles White Album backwards? ;-)

The folks in the XDCAM camp have plenty to crow about--it's a nice piece of equipment.

For me, shooting with the HVX is a pleasure. Proper composition and lighting (and decent subject material) yield a picture that doesn't require apologies or excuses. The only real test is "what does it look like?" And what it looks like is awesome.

I will say that prior to my purchase of a proper monitor I might have been mislead. I wish everyone could see the footage projected on a 50" plasma, and on a 10' screen at the HVX BootCamp because, believe me, that would shut a lot 'em (the naysayers) up.
