Unrecognized 16gig P2 card

I shot a show on Cinco De Mayo (Tuesday)....actually, I ran the audio and a couple of my employees did the shooting. I had loaded 2 16g cards into each 200a for a 480/60i shot. All for online (their website), hence the resolution. I've never shot 480 on my P2 cards. I have on DV, never on P2.

Low and behold, I am transferring the footage last night and one of the four cards is coming up as unsupported or unrecognized card in a couple of 200's. (The 200a I shot with is at home....we have 2 of the A's and 2 originals) Also, in both of my G4 powerbooks that we use for off load. I stick it in the computer and it pops up as usual on the task bar, albeit briefly, but never as the icon on the desktop. Disk Utility and Disk Warrior don't see it on the laptops and neither of the original 200s at the studio can see the card. Also, the repair option is not an option, as it shows unlit because the cam doesn't see the card. Weird! Never seen this. I am going to stop by and pick up the card on the way back home tonight to try it in the original camera, but I don't have high hopes. Has anyone else seen this? I tried Panny support, got a number, but they are closed for the evening. Thought I would drop a line here before I hear back from them.

We have several cards, 4x4g, 2x8g, 4x16, and 2x32. Never, ever seen this issue in any of the cams. Even if the card is empty, it shows up as an icon on the older macs. (Hence the reason to transfer with the old G-4's and their expansion slot.)

Any help would be appreciated. I REALLY need to salvage the video if it is there.

BTW, Fella running the video has a ton of experience, saw the switch over happen, complete time countdown for both cards and the continuing depletion of time as recording...IOW, no warning that it was not recording. Also, no onsite swap took place of the cards. They were in the camera until I took them out to do the transfer.

Just like the card does not exist. Doesn't show up in the camera or the computer.

Incompatible card error on original camera too. Actually flashing red slashed box in the corner, slashing P2. All of my other cards work fine. Do P2 cards fail?:Drogar-Mad(DBG):

It doesn't have more than 250 hours on it.

Can you try recording a few more seconds of vision to it into a different camera other than the two you used.
Sounds like the cams or the card maybe faulty... try your pana dealer for a test/fix.
they will most likely ask you about the cams and the cards firmware is it up to date, that may have caused an issue.

Tom,

All of the other cards I have work fine in all of the cameras. This card is the ONLY card that comes up as "Incompatible Card" and a flashing red P2 box with a line through it. As if it is NOT a P2 card. It is over a year old, definitely has had footage on and off of it...

Lastly, I have NO option. I cannot record, format, view, etc....because, the camera sees it as "No card." I am still on the phone with Panasonic. Apparently, the R series cards (without physical damage to them) should last forever. Should is relative, as no one has used one forever, but these R series cards don't seem to break. I cannot find one mention of my issue online anywhere. I am on the phone with Yakov at Panasonic right now. Apparently, he is the P2 doctor. 4 possible scenarios...and I don't understand all of them. What I do know, he is going to fix it. No problem on replacing the card right away....big question is how important the footage is. Theoretically, and it is rare....if one of the four memory controllers in the card failed, BUT the footage is there, it is recoverable. They rebuild the controller and recover the footage. The ONLY case I will lose the footage is if the camera locked up and my guy on the cam didn't notice, the footage will have never actually transferred to the cam, AND the lock up frustrated the card and locked it down. The former (rebuilding mem controller for recovery) will take a trip to Japan, BUT that only takes 2 weeks or so. A bargain in my opnion:) That may be the best 2 week wait this year. No one is in a hurry for the final product, but the footage is important. AND, I have a direct line to Yakov now!

Pretty rare for this to happen, but service with the possibility to recover is much more than I anticipated.

Just a head's up....if anyone has this issue, it is not repairable by us, the end user. It must be sent to Japan. Internal error on card. I will know in a couple of weeks if the footage can be recovered but the card will be replaced immediately.

Thought I would share this as there is NO reference on the board to this type of issue. If someone else is searching for Incompatible card, this is the deal. Yakov is the man at PBTS in New Jersey.

Hopefully this is ultra rare. The only issue with Digital footage. If it is broken, it in not there. Unlike tape, you can splice it, maybe lose a little but salvage most. Digital is either there or Not:badputer:
