I just finished my first short film shot on the dvx100b for my film class. We shot everything in less than 5 hours. My friends weren't the best actors but they tried their best at it.

Synopsis:
After Jacob loses his brother, Matthew, in a fatal stabbing, he goes on the hunt for his murderer. But what he finds in his search will shock him.

File Size: 44 mb - length: 7min

Let me know what you all think - later.

Okay, okay. Not bad. First off, I thought the titles were really well done. Don't know what you used but they looked great. I also liked the cinmatography at times. My two favorite shots were the shot outside the building with the two heads in the foreground and a raised (was it highway? railroad track?) in the background. Great shot. I kind of wished you just played the entire scene from that shot, instead of cutting in to more "boring" close-ups. Also the shot when he's on the roof and he first sees his brother. When we're behind him, and the sun is behind his head, lighting up the left background. Great shot. I loved the blue tint you put on everything. Gave it sort of a Michael Mann feel (did you do that in post?) Also, i liked the red flashback stutter effect you used in the stairway.

The story needed a little work though. It didn't feel urgent. I didn't really feel compelled to go on a journey with this guy. And I think you're right. The acting was part of that. This, if anything, is a story that's acting-dependent. So if you don't have great acting, it's gonna fall flat.

Still, I thought there were enough things in there that made it worth watching. Can't wait to see what you do next. Good luck!

not too shabby,.

The idea and concept was nice and original, which i love but.

gotta say, acting was shyte. Which is too bad cause your CC and style could have leant itself to a much better piece.

one thing that bugged me was your effect in the intro and how it went into the black bars of your aspect ratio. gotta be careful when applying effects that it doesnt affect the black.

Every now and then your framing was a bit off, like the 2-shot of the guy getting out of his truck. Every now and then i found the framing gave a bit too much overhead space, but overall well done!

The CC and titling was all in FCP

-The street conversation scene is in front of a railroad track and that was actually my intention to have the whole scene as one static shot... but then the acting interfered. The actor with the sunglasses messed up his lines in every shot so I got those over-the-shoulder shots to help hide some of those mess ups.

Thanks for the replys!
