Unplayable Tape (other format) error

When I record with DVX-100AE in VCR mode, and play it back, the image is distorted and an error is given: Unplayable Tape (other format).

I have tried an other tape, and it gives the same error.

I always use the same tapes, always Panasonic AY-DVM63MQ

Never had this problem before.

I do a digital cut from Avid Xpress pro HD, have tried Assemble, insert.
But I have put in a tape, with allready something on it, and I did a digital cut to that tape. Then I have input a new tape again, and it records fine, but now it did it from another project, maybe the project has some problems? I will check it out.

But few weeks ago I was recording from cable tv to my DVX-100AE, and when I was loading the material in the computer, it did give me that same distorted image when passing a break(edit).

oh so you are actually recording while the camera is in VCR mode. Sounds like you do a lot of recording on your cam, how many hours on the heads? Maybe its time for a cleaning. Does it record in camera mode and play back in VCR mode at all? If that happens maybe your record heads are misaligned.

Well, I do record once in a while in VCR mode, just when projects are completely finished and on DVD. So, I try not to use it as a VCR, but I have to make back-up's.

If I record in camera mode and play it back in VCR mode, it all looks fine, no problems at all!

But now I have to tell you that yesterday when I did a digital cut, the timeline in de PAL project contains some NTSC video effects. It's all strange to me that it will import in a PAL project and that it plays fine, but it does, but maybe the DVX-100 will get confused...

****, today it happens again with pure PAL signals, after recording which goed smoothly, it plays back with horizontal black bars and distortion on the left side, and it gives me that error while I keep playing the tape. I put in a older tape with older recordings on it, and it does the same! Help.

I know this is old, but am in a desperate situation here. The same problem has just occurred to me on a paid gig. Is there anyway to resolve this? I'm imagining that the error happened while I was recording, either due to faulty tape or misaligned heads. If that's the source material... then I'm SOL. Anyone seen this before?
