"UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS" premiere a success!

Last night we premiered out latest feature film "University Heights" to a wonderful crowd. I won't have an exact head count until tomorrow, but we had at very least 400 people. I was relieved, considering in our community (the Quad Cities) there was a Joan Jett concert, the annual Air Show, and the Riverboat Grand Excursion which drawns in thousands.

The film was given a standing ovation, and we received great feedback.

The screen was HUGE too - the size of many movie theatre screens. Amazing to see the film on a big screen like that, and the DVX100 footage looked really awesome.

There will be more screenings on the way, and the DVD is now on sale. Visit our website for more info!

Below are links to pictures from last night.

That's awesome. Great job man. How was it projected? Did you do a 35mm transfer?

Re: "UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS" premiere a succ

It was projected from the DVD copy. We used a huge Sanyo projector, which was set up in the balcony, and the screen was about 60-70 feet away from that.

Hi Scott, I just checked out your online trailer. Your movie looks great.

One question, please: What lenses/accessories did you use with your DVX100A?

Re: "UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS" premiere a succ

Re: "UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS" premiere a succ

Thanks guys!

Paul, I used a barebones DVX100A. The widescreen is a matte I applied in post.

If you have any other questions about the film or equipment, feel free to ask.

2nd picture from the top. The chick in the skirt looks like she could be hot. Is she?

ROTFL! I'm new to this forum. I like it already. ;D

Thanks for the reply, Scott. I guess I do have one more question now: Was there any reason why you didn't use either of the DX's in-camera 16:9 options?

Haha - no idea! I was inside during all of this, and I think those are just people on the street who were passing by, and decided to stop and see who was getting out of the limo!

Paul - I don't use any camera's 16:9 option unless it is true widescreen. I prefer to use a matte so I can reframe a shot in post if needed, which is impossible any other way. Also, I don't want to lose part of the resolution.

Everyone, I just watched this movie in its entirety last night and highly recommend it. It's well shot and the story is excellent.

See it.

Great job Scott!
A couple of quick questions if I may: Did you shoot in 24P or 24PA, what NLE did you use in post and lastly did you have a dedicated boom mic operator?

Re: "UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS" premiere a succ

Harry,
I shot in 24P, and cut the film with Adobe Premiere Pro.

I did have a dedicated boom operator - my girlfriend. She had taken a sound class during a previous semester at school, and also read up on proper boom techniques. A couple day she couldn't be there, and one of my lead actors, Shane Simmons, filled in. He actually had experience with sound as well, so my audio was in good hands!
