Understanding the potential issues with using adapters on lenses?

hey guys,
looking at the gh2 and thinking I will go with the 14-140mm kit and then pick up the 20mm 1.7 popular pancake lens. but i'd like to add some other lenses to that kit. i am new to this so i don't totally understand, but it seems nikon lenses w/ adapters might be the way to go, so here are my questions:
1. what is nikon, nikkor, etc (what are the differences, or at least, what is the order from consumer to pro level)
2. this is my main question- can someone explain to me if i stick get manual focus and/or manual aperture? and if not, does the camera do this for me or what?
3. what are the suggestions for the 2x crop as far as inexpensive nikon glass along with which adapter?
thanks guys

After using the kit 14 -140 lens on the (2) GH1s purchased last summer, I finally bought a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and a Nikkor 28mm 2.8 for $75.00 and $70.00 respectively. Found these locally on Craig's List. Great condition with caps. Purchased (2) Fotodiox Nikon to m4/3 adapters from Amazon which came to about $80.00 including shipping.
The 1.4 is phenomenal in lowlight and the 28mm is just the thing for wide shots. These lenses are all metal construction with smooth manual iris. I come from the world of large broadcast ENG cameras where there is no autofocus and everything is manual. Yes, the Panasonic pancake lens is nice, but there are plenty of these Nikkors out there.

Okay so when using an adapter a Nikon lens will never be able to communicate with the GH2 so the auto focus is gone right? And the reason we want manual iris control is for the same reason right? If its auto on the Nikon its not going to work so you are just paying for something that is useless in that case correct?

i am most interested in the adapter that barry green is using with his af100. as long as it works with the gh2 it seems to be the ticket for me. its $179 i believe on cameraquest.com but apparently it can stay attached to the camera thus making the gh2 a camera that allows nikon lenses... seems ideal... of course if i get the pancake it would have to come off each time i wanted to use it...

Okay so there is a metabones adapter for around $90 on ebay and the voigtlander adapter for $180... it seems the metabones gets the job done efficiently so my plan is to get one of those adapters and start building my nikon lens kit... so now for the inevitable next question (and yes I will continue researching this on my own too) but what lenses would you guys suggest. with the 2x crop, i'd like something like this:
1. 7-14mm at something at least 2.8
2. still planning on the 20mm 1.7 pancake
3. maybe the 17-50mm 2.8 tamron for my zoom lens
what do you think... good setup?
