Understanding Firestore

Hi

I have the Firestore FS 100 with firmware v 3.0 and I would like to know if it possible to view the files shot onto the drive like you do with the P2 card?

Thanks.

Yes it is, on the back of the camera press the "mode" button. Next, on the top of the camera next to the menu controls press the "thumbnail" button. On the firestore, press the stop button, use the Rew and Fw to pick the clip you want, press play.

Thank you very very very much!! Saved my life!:dankk2:

This is the first time I am using a hard drive, only been using P2 cards...

What other cool things are there that I can do that I did not know I could do?

Is it possible to show the timecode in the LCD of the camera whilst recording to the drive, occasionally the drive freezes up...

I do have another question..

The drive is rather loud especially when trying to record sync sound, I was wondering if I could use a fairly long (5m) firewire cable and at least distance the drive from the camera or blimp it somehow, any ideas/help?

Glad to be of help. Quick question, are you mounting the FS on the camera? I have found that this is not the most desirable if you also have a mic on board. It is possible to run a long firewire cable, but be sure you test it before you use it as cables are all shielded differently.

All timecode for the FS is generated by the FS itself so AFAIK there is no way to view it on the camera.

What problems are you having with the firestore freezing? When does it freeze? How long before it unfreezes? Any extra info into that would be helpful.

Thanks that is what I was looking for. I am mounting it on the camera yes, works quite well. I will be using a boom mic for most things as onboard usually plays a backup roll. Even though we are booming the mic is still pretty sensitive especially when things are fairly quiet on-set.

- With regards to the drive freezing, it froze while recording to it about an hour into testing it indoors in a fairly average room temp. I control recording via the camera, never with the Firestore itself. The display just froze on what its' last position was. It only time it appears to freeze during actual recording and not (yet) when transferring to PC or anything else.

It only froze once, this was my main concern about having playback on-set to verify it was ok. We never waited for it to unfreeze and I would like to know does it unfreeze? What would be the correct procedure to follow apon the drive freezing?:undecided

Is this a common issue with the drives, this is a rental unit and I cannot perform the upgrade to firmware V4 for obvious reasons as the company has kept the drive still on version 1.0.0.04052606 of the firmware? I must correct my first post when I said it was V3, I was told it was but it is not!! I believe the firmware upgrade to 4 is not free... hmmm weird to pay for a firmware upgrade...?:lipsrseal

- Another unrelated issue is the noise of the camera, much discussed here on theses forums. I am viewing on LCD's, but the noise still feels higher than normal using even B.Press during the day, the mid's seem to be scratchy I have dropped colour level down to -2 and master pedestal to -7. Any other settings/modes that are noisier on this camera than others, I heard the CineD was quite noisy. We are doing our own tests but some expert help would be appreciated.

- One last thing, how to reset the camera to factory settings? The previous group have changed so many settings that I want to start fresh. The little reset button near the bars does little. The hard drive also contain a lot of other crap on it, the format within the menu on the drive does not clear the folders on the drive when it is picked up in Windows Explorer.:nads:

Your help is greatly appreciated. ( If anyone needs help with Adobe Premiere Pro I would gladly help!!)
