undercrank & overcrank question

Is under/overcrank viewable in the camera /monitor on playback or does it have to be imported to see the effect?

Reason I ask is I have brand new HVX (thanks santa) and I tried over/undercranking and can't see any difference in playback

First of many dummy questions I'm afraid
