Under Water Housing

I dont trust those epiccams at all. Maybe as a dive housing being used with great caution but the clips they use wont do much in the way of ANY physical abuse. I would rule out using it as a splash or near water housing if you are in any kind of impact zone. I have never owned one myself but have seen 2 surf videographers 3chips ruined due to leaks in the housing.

I came across this article last night - sorry if its old news but it seems like they have a pretty great underwater solution for the HVX - might be a little heavy if you are trying to hold it above water but the article is worth a read...

Hey Gerard.

The SPL Water Housings and the Epic housing are only for surface shooting, they both say on their sites that these housings are not for diving. The one in the studiodaily article is set up only for diving. It would be hard to use a housing like that for any extended time working on or close to the surface.

I got an Epic for my DVX100 awhile ago. Wasn't happy with the performance as you can't control it without opening it up. So it's hit record, put camera in, close housing and go. Can't stop record or zoom, etc.

It worked okay but out of nowhere I saw some water seeping in. I took it on land and noticed a hairline crack in the case. I had only used it once and thought it may have happened during shipping as packing wasn't great. Tried to contact Epiccam with the situation 3x and after no response gave up.

Good luck.
