Hey guys,
I'll be starting a film within the month and I wanted to know, am I better off shooting in the highest quality (1080) or 720? A lot of people on here seem to shoot in 720. I'm into color grading and it will be well lit, of course, Thanks for any advice..

Definitely 1080p. Action can look great in 1080p too - if you've got a very fast pan - maybe 720 for that, but I'd honestly just shoot working around the 1080p setting and stay within its limitations for the overall best look, creative editing and cuts vs. quick pans, etc.

I must concur with everyone above. 1080p looks fantastic. And as others have said, if you have lots of whip pans or hand held shots, 720p may work better. I shot a short film with the GH1 (that I'm still editing) and I shot both 1080 and 720 on the same sets with the same actors, so I can do a direct comparison. The 1080p has a crispness that the 720p lacks (though the 720p is still pretty darn good). And when you view the footage on a true 1080p TV, the 1920x1080 image really looks good.
