Uncompressed or not?

I am showing a documentary in one month at Universal Studios Orlando. It was all shopt on a DVX in 24PA and as of right now it is compressed using standard 24pa 2:3:3:2 pulldowndown settings. I think the screen we are showing this on is about 70 ft or something like that....

My question is this, should I re-batch everything at 10bit uncompessed or will it not make all that much of a difference? I don't care if it looks like video, we are going for a certain look, however, I don't want it to look pixelated.

Any educated suggestions?

Thanks,
jsullie

Re: Uncompressed or not?

AFAIK, any YUV-able DV codec captures footage as an exact data stream of what has been captured on the tape itself. Therefore, capturing uncompressed would not improve the image any as capturing with the DV codec does not compress the image any. Pretty much, WYSIWYG.

You might want to check out the Cinematography section of this forum for posts on uprezzing the footage to HD quality using a program called S-Spline Pro. The results are very nice.

Hey all.. Can someone explain (in dummy terms) what S-Spline does and what type of project should use this? What I mean is what goal does this help to achieve.. Sorry for being a dummy.. Just wanna learn

Re: Uncompressed or not?

S-Spline does an interpolation to increase the pixels in an image, basically in video applications it makes a DV frame a HD frame. In photo (the application it was designed for) it would make, say, a 1 megapixel image a 2 megapixel image.

It does take a quality hit, but it does it better than if you just did a Bi-Up like in photoshop.
