Unacceptable artifacts on where the color is - red -

That is how the DV format compresses color. it causes red/Blue artifacting. In post you can add a chroma blur, to reduce the stair step look.

If you move up to an HVX200 camera and shooti n the DVCpro50, or DVCproHD codecs these problmes are significantly reduced. The compression on DVCpro system is much lighter, and does not dammage the chroma as much as DV does.

What do yo advice for minimizing this effect, when shooting..
For ex, any "scene settings" advice? Or shutter speed, or etc? ( I understand that it's related to dv tech. But i'm trying my chance... )

( I understood what you mean. dv technology does this. ok. but any way to reduce this? I haven't noticed this (this much) before.. Also footages on this site are generaly perfect compared to this problem. )

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Like Timur already said, shoot on an HVX in DVCPRO50 or HD, or, avoid shooting reds. DV compression sucks..

You can't avoid or minimize it while shooting. The DV compression subsamples the color channels regardless.

The good news, you will likely not notice this when viewing on a TV. It's only really visible viewing on a computer monitor.

MPEG-2 compression does the exact same thing, anyway. If you were to somehow smooth the image, when you compressed for DVD, it would simply reappear.

you can minimize it by shooting with the chroma level turned down a bit to -3 or -4. the red will still artifact but the less saturated color will draw less attention.
