"Unable to locate the capture device"

I have a brand new HVX-200 that is driving me crazy. As best as I can tell it seems the firewire port is just dead. Whenever I try to capture in Final Cut Pro I just get "Unable to locate the capture device". This happens whether I am in tape or P2 mode, no video gets streamed over the firewire port at all. I've seen a few other posts with this problem, but so far no solutions. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
-Matt

If you want to import P2 cards, make sure the switch is in "P2 Mode" then use the button to select PC/DUB mode. You get there by holding (for about two seconds) the round button in the back of the cam. If you want to dump tapes into FCP, make sure you are in TAPE mode and VCR mode. Select the appropriate capture setup in FCP and capture.

If you have doubts about the firewire connection, go to "about this mac"..."more info" and check if the HVX is recognized on the firewire bus.

Go to the folder "user(your user name)/library/preferences" and delete the final cut pro data folder. empty the trash, then relaunch FCP and see what happens, i had the same problem, and it solved it for me. also make sure your capture settings are the same as the camera's recording mode
