UK F5 & F55 Pricing

What does this mean for USA

Well - the USA will get the ex VAT price... and I'd guess all prices will be cheaper, it's always the way that the UK and EU are more expensive... :(

So, I wouldn't expect a direct £ to $ convert, US will be less.

Can't you register for VAT as a business and claim it back? We do that here in Australia as a matter of course, and the GST (VAT equivalent) here is only 10% (compared to your 20%!)

To me the UK prices are more of an indication of where the prices will be than the US listed MSRP pricing. Of particular note is the price of the necessary accessories, the EVF, the batts, the recorder. All much lower than most anticipated. The price the F5 is cheap. The F55 is the only price that jumps out but with rentals it should have good ROI. You'd have to fork out for the whole kit to do a rental scenario though.

I think it's important to keep pointing this out, because a lot of people seem to keep forgetting it - the only essential accessories you'll need to get shooting with either of these cameras are:

- Some kind of monitoring solution (evf/monitor), and odds are (if you're shooting on cameras in this price range) you already have one or two.
- V-mount batteries (or AB mount battery with an adapter) - again, if you're shooting on cameras in this price range you probably already have a couple.
- SxS Media - if you have an F3/EX3, you'll already these (for 50Mbps recording at least), the Pro+ Cards you'll need to invest in (though if you're strapped for cash and already shooting an F3 to an external recorder, you can just bring that over to the new camera to hold off having to invest in any new media whatsoever).

Naturally, if you want to shoot raw, you'll have the R5 and AXS media to consider, but that's about it really (and for many shooters, the raw modules will make more sense as an occasional rental item). So for people who already own gear, there really isn't as much to these camera systems as you might fear. Most shooters coming from other large-sensor cameras will be able to get away with just the camera body and SxS Pro+ media (most of your existing support gear will probably transfer to the new cameras quite easily).

That ain't too bad IMO.

Personally I'm very happy with all the pricing. I just hope people don't forget the R&D and engineering that Sony does which goes into making new products. A company who does this readily needs to make profit and frankly deserves it. If people can't build a good business case or afford to buy a specific product, then there are always alternatives.

Don't think I was clear (sorry!) - UK/EU tends to get inflated street prices & then VAT on top - so it's a big hit for some - as there isn't much parity looking at USD prices and then converting to UK. The company I work for is VAT registered, so no worries there - although they're sticking with Epic for now.

Basically, the US price will be better than the UK. Even if you take the US price, then add duty & shipping... the US price will still end up being cheaper. It's always the way of Sony here - maybe Oz is more in line with the US?

£3,354.00 inc VAT, £3,300.00 inc VAT or £2,398.80 inc VAT for a viewfinder?

eehhhhhhhhhhhhh

Zacuto and Red Rock suddenly look cheap.

Nope, we get it even worse than you guys (by a fair margin too) - the joys of being a small and geographically remote market. :(

Don't check the price of the viewfinder for the F35/F65 - it'll give you nightmares.
