UHD HDMI to HD downscale INSIDE shogun?

Hello,

I am going to film a project that will be in 1080p and I would like to downconvert a UHD signal from a sony A7s into a 1080p signal. Do you know if it is possible to record this downscale signal INSIDE the shogun?
Has anyone already tested it? and are the results really better than recording straight internally?

Matt Allard did some tests with the odissey and seems to enjoy the results (http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/03/...scale-and-three-different-flavours-of-prores/) but I would need to know if this is also possible with the shogun.

Thanks

From my testing, no you cannot, but you may want to post on the shogun forums.

Did you see a noticeable difference in quality? I didn't really (which isn't to say there isn't one, my eyes might not be as good as others).
Isn't the camera already super sampling a 4k image into 1080p when recording internally?
Personally I'm not sure I'd trade a slightly sharper image for having to spend time in post denoising (I find noise in any shadow areas when recording 4k externally).
That's assuming you have post workflow in mind (not sure why else you'd only want to record 1080p) I guess unless drive space is your main concern?

Thanks for the answer caseywilsondp. I will have to deliver in 1080p so I would do the downscale from UHD to 1080p for the extra detail and sharpness, but so this functionality is not available yet... May be it will be in a future firmware?
Even with the noise you talk about, do you think it still worth to record in 4K with the sony A7S?

My workflows accommodate allowing time to denoise, so I certainly enjoy the 4k resolution. That's not to say all the noise is unacceptable, if you can, pump some extra light in shadow areas and pull down in post to kill the noise. Luckily the shogun monitor easily allows you to do this, so use a lut and light properly, then just add a little more light to the purple and blue areas (in false color mode). Slog2 is more susceptible to noise I'm my experience, but I find the latitude worth it. You may like using another profile though that better separates mids from shadows and therefore has less nose.

4k Slog2/sgamut with a lut, pump a little extra light into shadows, keep skin around 60-65ire (peach/light gray in false color iirc) pull down shadows and denoise if needed in post is my workflow... but that certainly doesn't work for all people in all situations.
