Ugh, I am an idiot...

So, I managed to get my step ring (from 35mm adapter) stuck on the threads of my Canon XHA1. It WON'T screw off. I've tried everything. Any recommendations on what to do? If say I can't get it off, am I going to have to buy a lens cap for the ring? Or do I buy a lens hood for the ring and the cap fits in the hood?

I feel so stupid, haha.

Is it cross threaded? Basically you need to safely apply force. Use something to get a good grip and protect the element, like rubber thick enough to block impact. Depending on the materials one of the threads might be damaged by this.

If you can't get it off yourself, many camera stores have tools that grab and turn stuck filters. They deal with it a lot.

Fat rubber band. No worries.

Don't just use continuous force... try, relax, try, relax, try... multiple twist attempts.

It will suddenly break loose... as if it was hardly tight at all. The threads are so fine that you most likely have the IMPRESSION that it's locked... but it's just tight. I don't think you could cross-thread a step-ring if you tried (it would most likely strip the threads out first).

While I love comedy... I didn't know how else to say it? :)

I have these things "jam" all the time... at least once a month... and that technique works. You want to sort of simulate an impact wrench... attempting to make a firm, but quick twist... rather then constant twisting force.

i use pliers, and a rag to actually grab the ring, and you wil be surprised how little force is neccesary once you have a little leverage...
