Ugh, enough of the HVX's LCD!

The VF is slightly higher res, but not enough to make any substantial difference. I also find the VF more appropriate for judging color & contrast on, mainly because it's a lot harder to get "off axis" from it, vs. the LCD where it's very easy to be at the wrong viewing angle.

Ditto here. I never had a problem with exposure when using a VF and zebras. Only 10 years for me though. Ditto on the cocktail, too! Cheers!

Well,
then you guys shurely now how difficult it is to focus with the HVX screen...
Measuring the exposure is the same of course, if not easier, couse sometimes the zebra got lost in the tiny ENG viewfinders;o)
Point is focusing HD with a lowres LCD is a PITA!

Hi!
Is there any point in switching the EVF to B/W or am I just being pretentious.
On second thoughts don't answer that last bit :-)
Dave

Focus is just like on an old 16mm camera: open the iris, zoom in and anticipate where the action will be. Focus there. Reframe and set iris again.
That´s how it is done for decades. If the object moves...get an AC. These guys can focus without looking at anything , not even the LCD ;-)
I use the EVF mostly in black and white, because it helps me to concetrate on the focus instead of the colours.
And for contrast/exposure the zebras are definitely needed with the HVX.

And on a related point, why the Blue Blazes couldn't Pannasonic get the focus distance readout accurate :Drogar-Love(DBG): Otherwise why provide one. That can be read in Feet as well as Metres. Argh! Get this right for the "B" revision:Drogar-Evil(DBG): At least then we could use a tape to get the focus right.
Phew, ok, rant over.
Cheers,
Dave

PS addied in edit. Make this availble as a Firmware Fix. Please? Pretty please??

Um, you can use a tape to pull focus off the camera. Before I started a commercial I was ACing last I set up a chart and marked the "focus plane" It was easy as that. I had accurate focus pulls everytime.

I just got a laser tape measure and I found the focus readout to be accurate.

Not picking on anyone here, but I gotta chuckle every time I hear people complain about the LCD.

The LCD performs nicely between a 1" viewfinder and taking the time to use an outboard monitor.
I agree that it would be cool to have a better monitor but at what price increase? If you have to rely on a monitor, (which I almost always do), plug one in.
Just be careful, there are some lousy ones out there.

At least the B&W crt monitors were sharp.

Dave, my meter is pretty much dead on. And you can select feet or meters.
You might have your camera checked. Maybe your tape isn't calibrated. :) Just kidding on the tape thingy.
