U.s. Open

Anyone want to go to the US Open, I'm going, I have some free parking spaces and my office is right next door.

Hudson's right, golf is not a competitive sport in the same vein as tennis.

Easy test:

Need gatorade?
Yes=Sport
No=Not a Sport

Too much golf and not enough hot russian chicks in this thread... :)

What the hell ? What is that ?

if you don't bleed and sweat then it's not a sport

I confess; I do follow that rule of thought.

I loved Michael Chang. Too bad he competed with Agassi, Courier and Sampras in his field.

Agassi owned him 15 - 7
Sampras owned him 12 - 8 (surprising stat)
Courier 12 - 12

Still, homeboy had 34 titles and will always have Paris.

Yeah, Chang was good, but he was playing with giants. I think a stronger mental game would've kept him competitive. I thought he played a predictable game.

How about golfer Cristie Kerr kissing the phallic Longs Drugs Challenge trophy.

That man hustled though; I havent seen any player hustle like him since Connors (or vica versa; you know what I meant!)

And for Flint and Lime ? You bastids !

One day, I will get to the Open

Yeah, he hustled like a mofo. But I seldom watched him control a game. It's like he was always reacting.

Wish I could go to the Open. Busy busy week.

I say a sport is any game that, when at the pro level, you get paid the equivalent GNP of a small nation. Therefore, golf is a sport. Bowling is not. Not sure what mountain biking is, but it makes me bleed. And why am I even posting this? I have no Sharpova pics to add.

I don't get that. Chang's mental game was what got him where he was. The dude didn't have half the physical gifts of his opponents. The only thing that got him to "Never Give Up" was his mental toughness and his stamina. Dude ran down more balls than Clay Aiken.

He sort of reminds me of Allen Iverson, except without the tattoos, attitude and bad language. Chang was very religious, and loved fishing for fish instead of women. :beer:

IMO, Sampras was more of a panty weight in the mental toughness department. The guy was so truly gifted physically, that if his game was off, he'd make a cry baby face, and go on auto pilot. Luckily, his auto pilot was better than 88% of all the players on tour.

Chang, Lendl, Wilander. Those were two guys who earned every title, even if they had to come back late in the day to do it.

Who do you think is mentally the toughest today ?

I don't think of stamina and never giving up as mental toughness. I just think Chang was a "hustler." I think mental toughness is being able to take control of a match.

I think Rafael Nadal definitely has mental toughness.

Oh ok.

I see mental toughness as when your whole game is falling apart, and you have to tune everything out and focus + perform.
I got a whole bunch of old games on VHS. Guess I should check out the newer players. So far, I haven't got back my chops yet - just started playing again me'self. That and football.

DVX-user Tennis Open. That would be an awesome event. Let's see Hudson or Jimerson beat my serve. heheh... :beer:
