U-C-IT Music Video

Just coming by to share with you all.

This video was shot in San Francisco over a period of 3 days. The swinging cars and motorcycle were a lot of fun to shoot. Just took 2 grips with me and a cargo van to carry all the equipment. (dolly, jib, lights, gear, etc)

Used my Schoeps CMIT 5U for the opening shot. By far one of the best shotgun mics I've ever used.

Shot on 10 4 gig cards. Having all these cards keeps the shoot moving. There's nothing worse than having talent wait on camera to offload the cards. I offloaded at night in the hotel when I could relax and think straight. I offloaded to 3 hard drives for redundancy so I knew I had my footage when I got back to LA.

Edited the project on FCP HD. The AJA LH card allows you to edit in HD and view in SD in realtime. Mastered to Digibeta SD for playback on MTV.

Thanks for watching.

Footage Looks good.

I have to say, the HVX is really a large step up from the DVX... and it does carry the infamous "mojo".

How about a mountain size leap...

Nice video. You've discovered what I have.. and that is that the HVX footage looks unbelievable in black and white. Makes me thing more about doing a project all in black and white...

Did you shoot at 1080 for everything but the slow-mo? Booty shaking in slow-mo is sweet.. and it's crazy but Rappers are the ones with all of the cash for videos. What happend to Rock and Roll.... ?

720pn for the whole thing. You don't get enough time in 1080 with all the footage we had to shoot. And I'd lose my 60fps in 1080. On Sunday I shot through 20 cards.

Wow, that video looks great! Did you use available lighting in the club or did you have your own lighting? It really will look right at home on mtv. Well done!!

switchin' 4 lanes, I'm a boss in the game!

This video has unfortunately confirmed my worst fear. The gang symbol known simply as "the shocker" has infiltrated our youth. These children maybe more apt to utilise this WMS (Weapon of Mass Seduction) on unsuspecting females. We most pust a stop to this epidemic before it is too late.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

That's a lot of shooting even with 10 cards. Do you also have the p2store?

Congrats on a bangin' vid. I think we'll be seeing a lot more HVX or straight up HDV vids this year.

No, this is the symbol of WMS. He's teaching us by example. He's the true Boss in the game. The kids learn by his example. He started the epidemic a long time ago.

I was going to get the p2 stor but then you need have two of them in order to have redundancy. There's absolutely no way I'd rely on just one for any shoot. If the drive fails, you're done. You just simply cannot tell a client you lost all the footage. They simply will not accept that as an answer. So the cost of two p2 stor drives went into the cost of more cards instead.

I needed to keep my workflow going without any interuptions. The p2 would've slowed down the whole process for me. I need to shoot all day, not hold up production to dump cards. That's what the hard drives are for at the end of the night. I wanted to keep the workflow just as if I was still shooting to tape. The transfers in the field don't work for me.

I also like to see the data being tranferred in the computer. The p2 just had some lights. That didn't give me too much confidence in knowing that my footage was there. Just my way of working.

Nice Work!

Looks like you shot some in Crissy Field on The Presidio.

How'd that go?

Did they make you get a permit?

It also looks like you were in BayView and Hunter's Point. Rough Place!

Very nice color.

You did a great job filming so many different skin tones.

The girls look beautiful!

We got very lucky. Not a single cop car to be found. No permits so everything was run and gun. All except for the club. We rented that out for the day.

Put it this way. I spent more money owning all the equipment than the budget of the video. But since I bought the equipment for other jobs as well. It'll all eventually equal out.

Jib arms, remote heads, P2 cards etc. aren't cheap, know what I mean. I think the budget for this particular video was about $20,000

good video. how did you get the 1:85 look or is that just cropping...also did you use a wide-angle lens? ur right B&W looks amazing on the HVX.

Hey dude, Congratulations on making a music video that is such a high scale. You must be stoked if it gets aired on MTV :)

Im just wondering though if this Clip was your idea as a Director/Production House, or the Groups? As js33 said where have all the real musicians gone? and im asking where have all the real Music Video Directors gone?

Im tipping this is what all these types of Groups want in their clips which is in this order: Bling, Bitches, Cars and M O N E Y....
Unfortunately there is nothing Creative or Artistic at all, or am i missing something?

Mark Romanek did a Brilliant job doing Jay Z's '99 Problems' Music Video, it is the same old things listed above however he put his own touch on it by making it so Raw, Frantic and Gritty and Personal...

Anyways Congratulations again on your clip, i think if you had of had a 35mm Adapter on top of that beast it would have right up there Production wise ;)

Long live Michel Gondry!

i think more color correction would be better!!! Some scenes looks in opinion too much "video-like"

I second that about Michel Gondry!.... That compilation DVD series is so damn inspiring. That menu loop too is the funniest DVD menu in history. That guy just has too much damn talent... Totally sets the bar so high.. even if he is French. lol
