Ty Ford's audiocentric NAB 2018 report

Thanks Ty. One minor query arising: you make a couple of references along the lines of 'with AKG sadly gone' (presumably only their professional audio element), which is news to me. Their website for professional sound (inc. mics) remains as usual, and stock of mics seems normal here in the UK: any chance of expanding?

Cheers,

Roland

I think it's purposely not clear. But it looks like Samsung/Harmon (AKG's parent) laid off 650 people. That's a lot of redundancy.... And it looks like most(?) of the AKG engineers formed or joined Austrian Audio:

The first three months are behind us. Who we are. What we do. Where we're headed.

Austrian Audio was launched in June of 2017 with the goal of reclaiming the heart of 70 years of Viennese design and manufacturing excellence in high-end audio and acoustics. With the closure of AKG’s Vienna headquarters and development center, our entrepreneurial spirit and passion for audio could not simply stand by as one of the world’s powerhouse centers of classic and respected design was shuttered. We at Austrian Audio saw an opportunity and decided to chart a new course.
Our team is founded upon the core engineering and executive team behind some of the world's most loved audio and acoustic products & technologies. Now unfettered to pursue new technologies and goals that support innovation and our customers -more than simply being yet another brand in a portfolio- we can better engage with our customers and expand into untapped areas.

So I'd figure Samsung/Harmon/AKG will keep selling the mics they currently have in stock and can easily continue to make. But unclear how much new mics and headphones we'll see from AKG.

Upside: the Austrian Audio site and blog is pretty cool, fun, and promising.
