Two very different experiences with cheap Ebay lens adapters

Didn't want to risk $200 just to try some lenses laying around the house, so I got a couple of $20 Ebay adapters (brand name "Fotasy") to try my wife's Nikon lenses and some Canon FD lenses. Tried for two hours to put the adaptor on a 50mm 1.8 Canon lens with no success. Best I can tell, even if I got the adaptor on, the pin that engages the aperture lever on the lens is in the wrong place. Gave up trying.

Then I grabbed my wifes 18-55mm Nikon DX lens and rotated the adaptor on it with no problem, snapped right into place, tight fit. Adjusted the aperture easily using the adaptor's "Lock-Open" ring. The lens, to me, is much easier to focus than my 20mm pancake and my wife is in danger of losing it!

One thing I'm concerned about, though, is focusing to infinity, as many of the cheaper adapters evidently do not enable it. How do I check that the adaptor is allowing proper infinity focus?

Take a shot that has something well defined at infinity. (eg. a mountain range with an arial on it. long city scape...)

Do it in sharp clear light.

The better of the cheap adapters are Fotodiox. I have a few of them and they’re not bad. a tad loose but I haven’t had any focus issues with them. Amazon has pretty much all versions. The are also known as Rainbow adapters.

My adaptor was purchased from Rainbow Imaging on Ebay, maybe both these adaptors are from same mfr?
