two users, different settings, sharing footage

A friend and I shoot with different settings: one prefers to shoot 24p squeeze mode and the other 24p advanced, 4:3 letterbox. For very short collaborations, we both shoot the same so no issus sharing footage, but long term we may ultimately want to share stuff that is shot differently. This can be resolved in post, yes?
 
It can be solved in post, but it'd be easier to just use the same settings when you are working together on a project. In post, you'd either need to upscale the 4:3 to 16:9, or downscale the SQUEEZE to 4:3. Sounds like a waste of time.
 
Since we are in different states and have different shooting preferences I don't see any other way around it for the time being. I just want to be sure we can make it work.
