Two Questions

Ok, working on Avid Xpress Pro HD.

Shot the film with the HVX, 720pn 23.976. We shot for a 2:35 crop, or 2:40, whatever...

Anyway... first question. I am using Sorenson Squeeze to make my MPEG2 DVD files, but everytime I do they're kind of stuttery. I am thinking this is because the footage is true 24p, not 24p with pulldown. Any thoughts on that?

Also, how do I crop 2:35? I threw a 16:9 crop on there, and it looks close, but I want to be sure it is accurate. Thanks!
 
It's 2.35. Not 2:35. That would be tiny.

The "Anamorphic Mask" effect is 2.35.

Also, what frame rate did you edit in? If you shot in 720p/24pN, then your footage really is 23.97fps. You should have been editing in a 720p / 23.97 project.
 
Squeeze can handle 23.976, so it's not that the footage is 24p. In the MPEG-2 settings for your encoding parameters have you selected 23.976 as the Framerate?

That's the first flag that's going off in my head. If that is set correctly, then post the rest of your MPEG-2 settings and I'll see if I notice any issues.

I cannot select 23.976 in the squeeze settings unless I select MPEG1. In MPEG2 mode it only allows 29.97 FPS. I am confused...

Regarding the crop... that is too small of a crop. My footage is already 16:9, so the crop makes it way too small.
 
I totally misread your first post. Forgive me.

Use the mask effect, and set the height to 75. That will give you the 2.35:1 aspect ratio in 16:9.
