The Great New England Air Show highlights now online at XR. Ten minutes of the most notable events at the show.
My partner who operated camera #2 was very impressed with the EX1 and how the focus peaking could even discern a single spec of aircraft several miles away in the sky and highlight it in red, indicating focus lock.

I was impressed with the exposure lattitude achieved with settings I evolved over several months of working with the camera. It's a real hi-fi picture, and the contrast is about right. I used a cine matrix to get more purplish-blue skies, which reduces red saturation quite a bit. I think I personally prefer the HiSat matrix look, which I used on the B17 footage from August. But it still looks great.

Enjoy the Air Show, as seen through the eyes of a pair of EX1s.....!

the lattitude and color on your footage looks vey close to film. looks excelent. I'm contemplating a move from the canon a1 to the ex1, how would you rate this over the a1 which I love the quality also.

The two cameras are in different leagues--one is HDV, the other is XDCam HD. I've seen the Canons produce some very nice images, however the HDV format places severe limits on bandwidth, so you have to choose subject and framing/motion carefully so as not to produce a high level of quantizing error in the MPEG encoding. Also, HDV is a 1440 resolution, whereas XDCam is a full raster 1920 and with a lens that can utilize it all. The level of detail is much greater for this reason.
CMOS enjoys some of the widest lattitude in terms of imager technology, and as such, it looks like a moving photograph--on a good 50" plasma fullHD TV with HDMI connection, it's like a window and looking through it with 20/20 vision.
If you can live with the rolling shutter issue (widely discussed here and elsewhere), then the EX1/EX3 is/are excellent cameras for a wide variety of story-telling situations. And as a bonus, put a good microphone on this camera and it records great audio too.
