Two EX-3 issues

Last week we completed our first "big shoot" with the EX-3. On the third day, the ability to monitor via HD-SDI just disappeared completely. Didn't affect us too much because I had component cables with me. We just forged on in the shoot. Back at the ranch, I fiddled with the EX-3 for awhile to try to get it back. The only thing that worked was choosing "reset all" from the menu, which of course wiped out all the customizations to the camera. But then it worked. I reloaded the camera data, and the problem re-appeared. So, it appears that something got randomly "corrupted" in the middle of the shoot. This bugs me because it pretty much negates the ability to save camera data; I have to start over with things like my file naming convention, picture profiles, etc. Anyone else seen this?

Secondly, I think the back-focus is messed up somehow. Even though I performed the back-focus exercise using a focus chart, it seems like it's soft. I couldn't ever get a confident focus. I'll have to experiment with some images shot with the default "camera reset" settings I mentioned above to see if the out of the box back-focus is OK or not. Maybe I'm not getting a good adjustment when I do it. Anyone else having any back-focus issues?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like a camera with a hardware problem and it needs to go back to Sony.

I have personally not had a backfocus problem with my EX-3.

You could back up the camera settings to a SxS card, then retore from the SxS card couldn't you?

There is a menu option to save and load settings.

YES. I have had back focus issues since I bought the camera and have been on the boards looking to see if others have been able to get theirs fixed, as I have not--either through the Flange Back test or through Sony service. They have not replaced my camera, either, and this has been going on for 8 months. I wonder if the problem is more prolific than we know. Please check your image---should be clean throughout the zoom with a proper aperture. During calibration, mine softens less than halfway through the zoom and then comes back into focus on the end. Can only work around when Not in Full MF mode, which is what the Sony engineer told me to do because there "is no fix" for it---which is not the way I need and want to work.

Hi guys,
chrisccw, I have just bought the EX3 as well and I'm experiencing exactly the same issue you describe, with soft focus in the middle of the zoom range, but fine at tele and wide!
I just wanted to ask you if you ever got this sorted out, and what do you think the best way would be for me to approach getting it sorted?

Thanks
