Two crazy ideas! Rear mount anamorphic adapter? Use a Letus on an AF100 for WA?

These may be crazy ideas but I thought I'd bounce them off everyone here.

Considering that the sensor is so close to the lens mount on the AF100, wouldn't it be rather doable to engineer a rear mount universal Anamorphic lens adapter that would take advantage of the larger lens circle that FF Canon or Nikon lenses make? I would love to be able to shoot 2.35-1 on an AF100 without loosing resolution. I realize that the image would have to be cropped eventually to get in out on DVD or Blueray, but still. It sure would be nice no? Doesn't the AF100 present a unique opportunity to design such an adapter?

Considering how cheap you can pick up a Letus these days, and I can only imagine they are going to get cheaper, would it possible still be a viable solution to shooting wide angle lenses on the AF100? Boy would I love to mount a Canon 24 L at F1.4 on an AF100 and have it look like it should. Couldn't I with a Letus? There has to be a way to make it work no? I bet it will be a long time before we see a 12mm F1.4 for the M4/3 no?

Not sure how crazy these ideas are but I thought I'd share them.

What do you think?

Modern anamorphic presentation standards are 2.39/2.40... not 2.35... although you can do whatever you'd like.

Rear mount universal anamorphic lens adapters are improbable. Different lenses have different characteristics such as backfocus. Some lenses focus their bent light rays around 20mm (m4.3) while others bend the light at a point of focus 62mm (PL) from the flange. Thus it would not be universal, but rather built to work in concert with lenses with distinctly compatible designs.

The idea is pretty cool and I'd love to see something like this happen. But sadly, it probably won't. Especially for m4.3 lenses. They don't call it micro for nothing! Flange depth is limited to just around 20mm... significantly more shallow than say the 62mm of PL mounts. In addition, you are talking about a rear adapter. Perhaps making a lens with a rear anamorphic element would be possible, but as an adapter, an alien attachment from original design, that means it will either need to fit on the back element and be small enough to sit inside the flange distance area within the lens mount... or more likely be put inbetween the m4.3 mount and the m4.3 lens... which would create more issues, in my opinion, because the flange distance would be significantly increased. Now reaching infinite focus would become impossible, the lens markings unreliable, the FoV magnified, and the exposure reduced.

If you'd love to see a 12mm (although you're anamorphic example is only a horizontal FoV of 12mm) and have some fun with optics, look up focal length reducers. By using full frame lenses, you can actually shrink the projection circle to a smaller size, eliminating the significant crop factor AND theoretically gaining light sensitivity. Technically and by my theoretical calculations you could get a very close FOV to FF cameras, have the DoF of a F/1.4 lens, yet get the equivalent exposure of a F/1 lens.

This is theoretical. I have a hard time believing this train of logic, but it's exciting to explore and I encourage you do.

ps: focal length reducers are usually found and used in telescopes. It is not a wide-angle converter.
