Two Commercial Spots.

Re: Two Commercial Spots.

very well done.  ;D at least it had me laughing.

I'd rate the first one a 7 out of 10, and even 9 for the granny!

Lightning and colour-saturation could have been a little smarter but all in all i think these ads are great: Use of music and timing in the spot with the man is great, although maybe the end (him walking satisfied) could have been a little longer, to show the difference more drastic. Anyway, they both fit perfectly with the claim, and camerawise I think this is good enough not to let one wonder if this is a lowbudget-mini-dv-ad, because the simpleness seems to be intended.

I wonder if the swiss icecream is any good?

Re: Two Commercial Spots.

Gotta agree with Bens take. I too liked these "Little " commericials. Very good stuff.

I would also liked to have seen a little longer on the satisfied walk of the ice cream man. Perhaps the transition of him entering the store and exiting (which didnt seem to work anyway) could be cut down?

Both of these were great and the only enhancments I'd like to see are in the saturation and Lighting as Ben suggested.

Overall?

3.5 out of 5

Good work! I look forward to seeing more in the future!

Re: Two Commercial Spots.

.. watching that guy eat ice cream in the cold outside just made me cringe.. which almost made me throw out any real opinion on the commercial, and just choose to hate it. but after i stopped pouring hot water over my teeth, i decided that i liked these. good job. the simple approach was nice, and the pacing seemed good. thanks for sharing.

Re: Two Commercial Spots.

I'd suggest showing the guy hating the cold even more. Winter is miserable for me, and I can think of innumerable examples of what I hate about it. Play it WAY up . . . like John said, maybe lose the door-opening cuts . . . then the punchline is even more of a zinger.

Re: Two Commercial Spots.

Thanks very much for your input. It's great to have a place like this to have these sorts of things voiced. It's not the friends who have to say, "It looks great!" because they don't know any better, and clients who ask, "Can we change this?" because they've seen too many Super Bowl spots. Greatly appreciated.

As for the lighting and saturation, I think it looks kind of shabby on the computer screen as well, but on the monitor and on a regular screen, both seem to look pretty good. I'd change it to play with it a bit more, but so far, I've been happy with what I've seen in "real life". I've noticed that with a bunch of people's work here, that there seems to be a bit of that saturated glaze over the images, yet I don't see much of that with XL footage or the like. Strange.

And as for lighting, I agree completely on the outside one, which was done in a hurry (it was as cold as it looked). The grocery store one had a good crew and a good lighting set up, but I had it color corrected to take out the color out of a lot of it, to make it more clinical looking. Hope the effect worked okay.

Thanks again for your input. I'm in post right now for two other Chicago-area spots, and shooting another two before the month is out, and the budgets require use of the DVX, so expect lots more from me.
